Coffee at the reception

Taylor, on September 6, 2022 at 8:14 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 29

Is coffee something common at a wedding? We have some family pressuring us about serving coffee at the end and this venue is very hands on for us. We basically have to supply everything so we would have to bring a coffee maker and have someone make the coffee. I did not plan for coffee for our reception at all

Me either! But apparently this is a very big deal for a few people on my fiance's side and my mother asked me if I was serving it but it didn't seem like a big deal to her

Many people live for coffee and cake at a reception (I'm speaking on behalf of my husband).

It depends on the crowd. I know most younger guests won’t care for it but the older folks would like to have that option. Our venue had that as part of the service so I didn’t take notice of who requested it.

Every wedding I have ever been to offers coffee and tea with the cake/dessert. I have also been to a few weddings that had coffee and a late night snack of donuts or breakfast sandwiches on the way out. Its up to you but I always appreciate a nice cup of tea or coffee with dessert.

My thing is that our venue is not making it. We would have to. We’re supplying all of the drinks for our wedding and that’s just one more thing to have to worry about

Who is providing catering? I would ask the caterer if that's something they could handle.

I was reminded in another thread that a vendor may be willing to take on an extra task if you ask and find a willing taker. I suppose it still requires finding the pot to meet the needs of at least most coffee drinkers there.

Maybe you can get cartons of coffee from one of the coffee shops nearby. I think I have seen those available before.

What about setting up a Keurig and some K-cups with creamer and sugar with some stir sticks?

We’re having a buffet and it’s getting dropped off. It’s very causal food so it’s just a scoop your own plate situation

That’s possible too. My only thing is that we may have only a handful of people looking for coffee. We only have 50 people attending

Maybe combine a carton of coffee with a k-cup machine so people "have a choice." Smiley winking

If you are not coffee drinkers, find someone who can provide the coffee maker.

I'm trying to figure out what to anticipate for coffee drinkers for our reception now that you brought up the topic.

I'm that case I would skip the coffee. You can't please everyone and if try to you'll only drive yourself crazy.

Since your husband’s side seems to be more concerned about the coffee situation, I would see if someone on his side would be willing to be in charge of it!

They may be picturing a more formal event than you are planning - I know that every formal event I've been to has had coffee service with dessert (but we're talking plated service with waiters coming around asking about coffee). I don't see any reason you need to provide coffee as long as they have beverages to go with their cake.

Can you get the boxed coffee from Starbucks or Dunkin? They stay hot for hours. It could be set out at the beginning with the other food and people can help themselves whenever they want it.

I've never been somewhere that served cake/dessert and not coffee. I'd be disappointed if there was no coffee. There are insulated cambros that you can get that also brew the coffee for you. You could get one of them to make and hold enough coffee for everyone.

We served coffee at our wedding reception and it was a huge hit!

Although for us it was not an extra cost because we ordered cookies to serve along with the cake and our caterer offered to include the coffee as well.

The thing is they know it’s not. They’re all fully aware that it’s not a plated service with waiters kind of wedding and they said they would but now I’m being a bit petty and stubborn because I feel like I was bullied into this
