Cocktail reception timeline?

Joann, on March 31, 2019 at 4:39 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 3
We are having a small ceremony of about 20 then having a 50 person max cocktail reception with Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails at a restaurant 15 minutes away from ceremony venue. The cocktail reception starts at 3pm but we (bride and groom) will not arrive until 330ish. Should we have a timeline of events for this? We want to more laid back non traditional feel where everyone can mix mingle, snack, drink. We will have a cake to cut as well. Sorry for rambling, just looking for some guidance. Thanks

I think as 3pm is not a traditional meal time you will be fine.

    Hi Joann,

Remember that the cake is usually cut during the last hour of the reception, and generally signals to guests that it’s okay to leave soon, so don’t cut it too early or things could be wrapping up before you’re ready!

What other events need to make it onto your reception timeline? Any speeches, dances, tosses, toasts, etc?
