cocktail reception menu

mdyblue5, on April 14, 2012 at 1:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I'm really stressing about deciding on our cocktail reception menu: first i'll start by telling you our ceremony/venue are at the same place from 5pm-9pm(only 4 hours). thinking ceremony starting no later than 5:30pm and lasting 20 minutes. then after ceremony start eating.

we haven't decided on the exact menu, but here's what i have so far:

spanokopitas

crab imperials

chicken satay

stuffed mushrooms or wild mushrooms tarts

shrimp cocktail

vegetable min spring rolls

polenta diamonds

caprese skewers

grilled tri tip w/ chimichurri

martini bar-mashed potatoes garlic

crepes filled with chicken

salad

bread

grilled veggies

my worries is that hopefully everyone will be satisfied with the selection. even though it's not a sit down dinner, i want heavy appetizers. my bff had a cocktail reception and it was awesome. i guess i'm worried, because my family has never done this and has always done weddings traditional.

To be honest, that is dinner time. If you expect your guests to be there the whole time you should feed them a full meal, otherwise you might have people going home very early if they weren't satisfied with the appetizers.

Well that's the problem i'm having. in order to serve a sit down dinner i can only invite i think 100 guest, but since i'm having 150 guest i can have a cocktail reception. i say i'm inviting 150, but hoping 130-140 people. that is why i'm going to have heavy appetizers.

    Hello-

Is there a way you can add a station of something instead of adding more to the app menu? I think then it would be a good balance.

@crystals-we're writing on the invites "cocktail reception to follow" and plus by word of mouth. i'm also having a trip tip w/ chimichurri sauce along with bread. they said it will be cut into small pieces, but assured me that there will be plenty.

I think it sounds fabulous! You're going to have plenty of food. I am at cocktail hours every weekend, and half the time, I hear the guests say that they can't eat another thing after they are over.

It's going to great! When do I get an invite!!??
