I was in my sister's wedding a few weeks ago and we were taking pictures during cocktail hour. Some friends came up to me after and said how bored they were during that 45 minutes. My sister planned everything down to the minute. She had set aside 1 hour for pictures but we finished early so it was only 45 minutes. Everyone said it seemed longer because there was nothing to do.

Anyways, I reserved a photobooth to start during cocktail hour at my wedding to hopefully solve that problem but I was wondering if you guys think that'll be enough? Should I add something else? Has anyone else ever been bored during this time?

I like a cocktail hour with nothing but food and drinks. It lets you say hi to people and mingle and take in the atmosphere and talk about how pretty the bride looked and happy the groom looked!! That said, the last wedding I went to the guest book was out at cocktail hour so some people signed it then.

I wouldn't be bored. It's lame to be bored in an hour at a cocktail party.

I haven't been "bored" since I was 10 years old. Why couldn't she be social and talk to people there? Weird.

I was bored at my sister's cocktail because there was nothing interesting going on and it dragged on. Like 1.5 hrs at least.

I've never been to a cocktail hour that had any form of entertainment and I've never been bored. So maybe these people are just boring people.

ETA: Obviously there was music, food, drinks. By entertainment I mean there were no games, no photo booth, etc. Food, drinking, and socializing should be enough to keep any adult entertained.

Here is my unsolicited old lady opinion. Many people don't get that when you go to a party you have a responsibility to be an active and engaged guest. There is always someone who doesn't know anyone and is standing by the palm tree nursing a glass of wine. Go talk to them. Find someone you don't know or haven't seen in a while and chat. Compliment someone. Ask someone about their tie. You might be completely surprised by the conversation that follows.

The art of conversation really is an art, not just the art of texting, the art of emailing, the art of snap chatting. It's actively interacting, in 3D, with the living people around you. I know, it's scary, but it's interesting. And as dumb and simple as this sounds? It makes all the difference in the ambiance.

If you're bored while drinking and socializing, that's your own fault.

I don't like cocktail hour, but then, I don't drink, so that aspect is lost on me. I hate standing in my fancy shoes, it's not as lively as dancing, and rarely do I know enough people to be able to reliably find a new conversation if my husband turns one to programming or the last gadget. Cocktail hour is the best because it's booze, food, music and socializing hour. What did your friends expect? Carnival games and performances?

I wouldn't be bored either. I feel like with good food, drinks, photo booth with conversation would be great.

In my opinion it was probably those people who chose not to converse and sit by themselves at the table. You can't really do much about that. If you're properly hosting it should be good!

For more suggestions/ideas. We are having some yard games at cocktail hour plus apps & drinks. Hopefully that will be good Smiley smile

JRo, I don't even have pictures of it- but yes- we had a huge "international cheese tower"

    (edit- don't have pictures yet)

it was that and something else- like cold cuts crackers and cheeses on a big butchers block table (4 feet long) and it was all stacked like 3 feet high in a really nice draped display.

It was glorious. I even got to eat some!!!!
