Cocktail Hour Boredom

SoonToBeSummers, on October 6, 2016 at 12:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 35

I was in my sister's wedding a few weeks ago and we were taking pictures during cocktail hour. Some friends came up to me after and said how bored they were during that 45 minutes. My sister planned everything down to the minute. She had set aside 1 hour for pictures but we finished early so it was only 45 minutes. Everyone said it seemed longer because there was nothing to do.

Anyways, I reserved a photobooth to start during cocktail hour at my wedding to hopefully solve that problem but I was wondering if you guys think that'll be enough? Should I add something else? Has anyone else ever been bored during this time?

How does one get bored with booze and appetizers?

We had open bar, food, and light music playing during our cocktail hour. Didn't seem boring to me in the slightest.

Did she have booze, good food and music? Because that's usually pretty entertaining.

As long as there are food and drinks they should be fine.

Did they not know many people there?

Usually booze, apps, & conversation is enough to keep boredom away for 45 mins.

We will have appetizers out & bar open, DJ playing, and a photobooth also but still following this...

Agree with others. Apps, drinks and music keep us occupied during cocktail hour

We had a hard time getting the guests seated inside for reception after one hour cocktail hour because they were still drinking, eating and talking.

They also had seating chart to look at and guest book to signed.

I kind of puzzle at "nothing to do" part.

I've never been bored at a cocktail hour as long as there is food and alcohol people should be able to just mingle for an hour

I agree. We had one hour also, fill with appetizers, cocktails and meet and greet do our guest. The only complain who came to me during reception time was my 7yo son and said he was bored while many of other children and our guests were having fun. Lol

    Open Bar + Cheese Tower.

How is it possible to be bored for 45 minutes with drinks and food?

I recently went to a wedding and during the cocktail hour they did serve drinks but they wouldn't let us eat until the wedding party got back and was allowed to eat first... it was pretty boring. they had a little photo booth but that was it.

maybe put something on the tables to keep them occupied? table games? good music with ample dancing room. hope this helps. good luck!

She did have an open bar and apps. I heard the apps weren't good though so maybe that's it?

They definitely knew people so I'm not sure what went wrong.

I've never been bored at a cocktail hour either so it's something I've never thought about.

Unless there is no booze and no food, how can you get bored?

Even when I didn't know anyone at my friend's wedding, cocktail hour wasn't boring and there was no photo booth to keep us busy. There's food, drinks, music...what else do you need?

And she had the DJ playing music so I'm not sure.

Cocktail hour is usually my favorite part, booze, apps and talking. Your friends a weirdo.

If her cocktail hour included cocktails, a good selection of apps, and a group of more than four misanthropic individuals, then I don't see the need for the couple to have hired a circus to entertain their guests. The formula I laid out is the basis upon which many successful social events are based -- large and small.

Even if there were nothing but bowls of pretzels and nothing to drink but bottled water, these "friends" should have never approached the bride's sister to say that they were bored (in that case, I could understand their boredom, but I can't advocate telling the bride's sister about it). Adults will find it not only easy, but pleasurable, to spend an hour with apps, cocktails, and the freedom to socialize. Host them properly with cocktails and apps and they'll be fine.
