Cleavage & Wedding Dress

Amanda, on May 17, 2023 at 2:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hi! My wedding is in November, and I’ve already bought my dress. I absolutely LOVE it but it has just a tiny bit too much cleavage showing in it. I’m not a huge fan of the fabric that just goes straight across the cleavage. It reminds me of when I was in middle school & wore tanks with every shirt I owned lol! Any ideas? Thanks🥰Cleavage & Wedding Dress 1

I think other than adding lace or a topper, you are probably going to have to have a seamstress rework the top of the dress. It’s definitely doable! But it may be a bit costly. If there’s extra room in the length of the top, she may be able to lift the shoulder straps a bit, which would raise the V on the chest.

Talk to an independent seamstress for ideas before you commit to anything. That is one of the drawbacks of V necks. If you search the forum, there are many posts brides who have bigger cleavage showing and they are uncomfortable but posters mentioned that it is not revealing in the least and anyone who is is a prude. That is not true at all. In comparison, there is no cleavage, based on the model picture but they don’t have the same chest mass as real women, and the person wearing the dress needs to be 1000% comfortable at all times. Discuss with the seamstress what they can do to remedy the situation. Outside of an opaque mesh modesty panel added, there is not a lot that can be done without getting a different dress.

Too many brides fall in love with a trendy, deep plunge style without considering if it's really the most flattering neckline for them. It may be possible to alter, but that's inevitably going to change the lines of the dress. You can do a mesh insert, but cleavage will still be visible.

Maybe material could be added in a V shape with sequins or rhinestones. Among some possible options, you should be able to find something that avoids reminders of your middle school days.

I don’t have any other suggestions…but that is an absolutely gorgeous dress! I hope you can get it so that you can wear it with 100% confidence!

Often these dresses come with the mesh insert to keep the dress together, and they come in a range of shades from soft white to nude for different looks. If doing without, you can add double-sided tape so you feel secure that it's completely flush with your skin. If you want to be more covered in the ceremony only, you can wear a cape, wedding, jacket, topper, or shawl. You can then remove this for the reception. Dangling earrings visually balance out the deep V versus studs.

If you don't want the fabric that goes straight across the bottom of the V, consider adding trim (lace or beaded) to the entire neckline, bringing the V inward. This would be easier than reworking the structure of the top.

I agree with Caryn. Adding a bit of trim/lace along both sides of the edge of the V could work.

Yup I had the same issue. They took fabric from the bottom of the dress and didn’t do that straight look but rather a ruffled look. Cleavage & Wedding Dress 2

2nd marriage so I didn’t want to wear white! That’s one of my boys in the background. Both my boys walked me up the isle after my daughter. My dad passed when I was a teenager. We are old but act so young!!! Lol
