Classic Car vs. Limo ?

Rosie, on April 8, 2010 at 10:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I know this seems silly to be thinking about over a year in advance, but someone just posted about waiting too long to book a limo. Our initial thought was to rent a 16 passenger limo for the bridal party, and I like the idea of everyone being together, especially because we'll have to travel from the church to the photo location and then to the reception site. Howeverrrr, my FH has a gorgeous green 1976 Chevelle Laguna that a part of me wants to take (and have for photos). How do getaway cars work? Do you ride with the BP in the limo to the reception and then have the getaway car waiting for you there, or do you and your FH drive alone and leave the BP in the limo?

His car looks a lot like this:

If you want to ride with the bridal party but still want the car, see if someone ( grooms father- brother ?) not in the bridal party could drive the car and follow or meet you at the picture location. You could do both, ride with party and have car for pics.

I really like the classic car. I have been a part of bridal parties where we all ride together. It was a blast. Maybe do what Cupid suggested so you can do both.

We love the classic car idea, too. But there is something to be said for riding all together.

I'm using the classic car and a limo. My father and I will be riding the classic to the church and the bridal party will be riding the limo. After the ceremony FH and I will ride the classic to the picture site and the bridal party the limo.

Classic car for sure! I would have a non wedding party member follow you in the car so you can get photos with it, then drive it to the reception then use it as your 'get away' car after the reception

I have no idea what we are going to do.... :/ I'm leaning towards a nice rental car for us and then the WP can all ride together to the photography place (there's only 2 girls and 2 boys so it won't be too bad)

We are doing the classic car & the BP will just have to follow in their cars for pics because the ceremony & reception are at the same place

We let the bridal party get to the reception on their own and were driven there in a classic car & then driven off for the night in the same car. we had a driver, se we could sit in the back together and not worry about it

Gosh, here I go against the grain. I think before the wedding reception, you should worry about being comfortable. The limo will provide you some comfort that getting into a two-door classic car will not. AC might be a luxury in the classic car. You may not want to show up all sweaty after you have to wrestle your dress in/out of a two-door sports car. Sports cars do not have much room for a wedding dress train, etc.

Here's the flip side. At the end of the ceremony... leave in the sports car. At that point you've had your fun, and you can "leave in style" in your classic wheels.

I still shoot some weddings were the bridal party drives there own cars behind the bride and groom, honking as they go. You can get a designated driver for the bride and groom.

One thing to keep in mind, limosine companies make sure the door openings are impecably clean. If you do take your FH's Laguna, make sure the door you're entering is clean of any dirt or grease such as from the locking mechanism. You wouldn't want to get any of that on your gown.
