Civil Court Wedding Dinner

Private User, on February 18, 2015 at 10:05 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

A friend of mine is having a out of the country destination wedding. Before she is going to have to do a civil court in the US, but invited some of the guests who wouldn't be able to travel to come to the civil court, and then to a restaurant to eat out as a mini celebration (no she's not renting a room at the restaurant, just a local restaurant).

She asks: Does she have to pay for everyone's plate or should the guests pay for themselves, since she is still paying for a wedding?

Yes she pays. This is her "reception" with the people who come to the court wedding.

Yes, she has to pay. She can contact the restaurant ahead of time and have them arrange a mini menu in her budget. If she can't pay or doesn't want to, then she shouldn't invite them.

She pays. She can control the menu, but she pays.

She should also call ahead just so the restaurant knows to expect a large group of people and can prepare a big enough table. It's more polite to the people running the restaurant, and then she won't have to wait for them to push together tables for the group.

She should pay. I personally under those circumstances would do an all you can eat buffet to get a group rate.
