City location on save the dates

Kelly, on April 10, 2019 at 1:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Hey there !!

FH and I are getting ready for our engagement photos and then save the dates!! We are being married in our church in one city and the reception is in another city. What location do we put on the Save the Dates?

Thank you in advance.

We put the location of the church, since that's where everything will be starting.

Are they in the same general area? I'd out the name of the bigger city that more people are familiar with.

We were married about 20 minutes outside of Baltimore and put Baltimore on our save the dates. It gives your guests a general idea of the area and let's then start thinking about travel arrangements. Once they get their invites they'll be able to see exactly where you're getting married and where your reception is and book any travel around that.

I agree with either above. If there is a broader city to use that makes sense do that otherwise put the church city since that's where guests will go first.

The city of the church/ceremony venue. Although, for ours we had just put "Chicago," since our STD postcards went out before our contracts were officially signed with either venue.

But the ceremony is where everyone should start off, and it's technically the most important part Smiley smile

Either do the ceremony location, or the general region (San Francisco Bay Area, Baltimore, Philadelphia, etc.).

I agree with this. We put Fort Collins on our save-the-dates even through technically the venue is just outside Fort Collins in a small neighboring down. The hotels are all in Fort Collins and in general it was a more recognizable city. We were more specific on the actual invites.

I would put the location of the ceremony.

    We said: “I do’s in ...., Party in ....”
we wanted our out of town guests to be aware in case anyone wanted to make travel plans!

If the hotels are in the same town as one or the other, I’d put the town the hotels are in. If not, the broader area name would be a good move. You could break it all down on a website if you have one, so travelers have a better understanding where they’re headed

Also for what it’s worth, if I were booking travel, I’d personally rather stay closer to the reception site , where I’ll end my night, for a shorter journey after the party (unless there was a shuttle and I didn’t have to worry about it). So, I’d find it helpful to have that information ahead of time.

The two locations are about 30 minutes apart and not far from Philadelphia, but the hotel (with shuttle) is in the same location as the reception. I think we will just put Philadelphia Pa. and then we will have the break-down on the website and of course the invitations. Thanks!

We are getting married about 30 minutes from the reception and both are outside of Philadelphia. So I guess we will just put Philadelphia. I will break it down on the web-site like others have suggested. thank you!

We had the same but different dates. We had a destination reception a week later.

    Ceremony • date • city
    reception • date • city

If yours is same day, maybe

    date
    ceremony • city
    reception • city
