Thanks! The benefit of limiting those options is you start getting creative in how you research vendors. We ended up really lucky since we already went to food truck festivals all the time, and then we found out our favorite local art gallery had just started doing events! Everything just sort of fell into our laps.

Yes I do agree with you regarding the food that you like. Caterers can always modify food to what you want to eat.

We could only choose approved vendors through our venue so we didn't have a choice. If we would have been able to choose, we would have chosen our own.

We received a list of 4 caterers that our venue works with and from that list of 4 we were able to choose whichever one we wanted.

When you pay your money...get what YOU want! I don't do dairy, so I told them NO BUTTER...just put it on the side...DONE! Next to buying a home and a car and paying for college, your wedding is one of your largest expenses. You can make demands. I had beef, chicken, pork, fish and vegetarian entrees. I had so many cultures and faiths, on my guest list, that I had to accommodate the tastes. I made sure the pork and the vegetarian lasagna was separate from everything else...it was buffet style.
Anyway, thanks for the well wishes and I hope your wedding is all you want and more!!!🤗

We went with a venue that would let us choose our own caterer. It was important to us to be able to have some discretion in all the vendors we hired.

We specifically looked for venues that either had a preferred list or allowed us to bring an outside vendor. My fiance is Indian and it was really important to us to be able to have Indian food either at the cocktail hour or reception (or be able to mix and match), which narrowed our choices of venues unfortunately.

We ended up deciding between two venues, one that had an in-house catering team and partnered with an Indian restaurant and another who had a preferred list but allowed a licensed outside caterer for an extra $700 fee. We decided to go with the one with the fee because it allowed us extra flexibility, and even with the fee would be drastically cheaper than the in-house option, which was $110/plate 😬 (we live in Chicago).

I chose the one at our venue but then again our venue doesnt allow outside food vedors other then the cake ! So kind of had to bc the venue was a great price compared to all the rest around my town. Most places around here bc the water front start at 6,000 and go up my venue only cost 3100 for food set up and tear down and ceremony chairs set up all decor etc and tear it down so to me thats a great deal lol..so if your venue allows outside food check around see whats best for you or see if you can do a taste test with the venues cooks and see what you like best GL..

My wedding is at a Jeffrey A Miller catering venue, so I both had to use their catering, and also WANTED to. All of their food is fresh farm to table, the menu fully customization, and so so so delicious. I also found going with the catering at the venue took a huge task off of my list of having to find another vendor just for catering! So happy with my venue!!! lol Good luck to you and your catering ventures!

We are using an outside caterer. Our venue doesn't offer catering. Sometimes its cheaper to use outside vendors if your venue allows it!
