I had to use the venue caterer which worked out well for me but it’s definitely a question you want to ask as you look at venues.

We choose our own catering company. We didn’t want to have a venue that made us choose their because we knew exactly what food we wanted and most of the places we looked at, they didn’t have the food we wanted.

Ours venue has an event team that includes catering, design, floral, and baker. Not the most cost effective but for simplicity (and limited “free” time) it’s worked well for us.

We had 3 approved caterers we could pick from. We picked the one that we liked the most and could do more customizing that works for us

Our venue doesnt have an in house caterer. They did have a list of people they often work with. But they didn't require that we use them.
We went ahead anyway as there is a long list of caterers and pretty much included most of them in town.

My venue has a short list of caterers they prefer, all at varying price ranges. If you book outside of that list, you have to pay the venue an extra $500. No thanks! So we're doing a BBQ buffet (the cheapest of the list, lol).

Oh yeah, I totally agree! I’d pass on the extra charge as well. Thanks for that heads up! *Noted*

The venue of my choice does have some great options from what I’ve seen especially cocktail hour. My mouth was watering! I’m more concerned about modification to the entrees/main course. My fiancé and I don’t eat red meat and pork and the entrees all have something one of don’t eat.

Makes sense. The cost is what I’m more concerned about as well. As most venues already have their selection of food already I feel I can find everything I want from an outside caterer. We’ll see though...

My venue doesn’t have in house catering, but they did have a “recommended” list of people they work with often. We were allowed to pick anyone who was a licensed caterer, though. We did end up picking one of the recommended caterers because they were delicious, a great value, and we wanted a caterer who was familiar with the venue so we could have the peace of mind that they would be comfortable serving there.

I’m hoping things work out the same way. As long as we can customize I’d be okay. Glad they worked out for you though!

If we were to do it again we would have a planner work with all our own selection of vendors. Usually places that let you bring in your own also allow you do bring your own decor. Talk about saving money!
