Choosing a Wedding Venue Help!

Alysia, on November 27, 2020 at 2:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 9
Hello all!

So I’m torn on picking a wedding venue. Our wedding is going to be a majority of out of state wedding guests. Like 80% of the guests. The venue I want is more in the country - far away from the main city area of Dallas. While I know this is our wedding, I do want our guests who are choosing to travel to feel comfortable. I need advice on if it’s better etiquette to pick a venue closer to the city of Dallas where it’s closer to the airport & more attractions for people to visit VS picking this venue that is more remote & out of the way for those that are traveling. Of course, I would offer options for hotel blocks and offer transportation.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I wouldn't choose a venue that's more than 30-45 minutes from the airport, and it would need to have nearby hotels.

Guests always travel to weddings. Try to keep everything within an hour's drive of the local major airport. As long as they have a place to stay and transportation to get there, you will be fine.

I agree with Michelle. An hour from the airport they’re flying into is plenty. To drive over an hour after flying would be horrible.

I agree with this. Within an hour is the best.

I can agree with the above ladies but at the end of the day, people are there for you and I would choose a venue you are happy with. I mean look at venues close by the airport and what not but if you do not fully love the venue then I honestly would not choose something you two are not happy with the cater to others. I hate to be the jerk but I noticed we with wedding planning we get too caught up in what would make the guests happy when I feel at the end of the day, anyone that loves you will make the effort to be there no matter what and if they choose not to then that is fine but get a venue that you both love and if it is out of the way the guests can decide to make the trip or not. That us just me. Plus sounds to me you are willing to find rooming in the area regardless. Worse case they can stay near the airport and rent a car for the day or carpool.

Personally I would choose the venue you fall in love with no matter where it is. When you know you know! People just want to know when and where and they will come! If they can. If they can’t, then an extra hour drive probably isn’t the reason they can’t come. You do what you want! It’s YOUR wedding!

With 80% of your guests traveling, definitely keep the venue close. Since they’re already traveling from out of state, don’t also make them drive a distance to your wedding venue too.

One of my cousins did something like this for her wedding a couple of years ago (nearly all guests had to travel from out of state, then rent a car at the airport and drive 1.5 hours to a remote resort where the wedding was taking place). It was super annoying and lots of family members still talk about how frustrating the experience was. I wouldn't recommend it.

Thank you to everyone so far that has commented. I think I’ll figure out ways to make it work.
