Cheesy to wear cute flip flops?

TurtleGirl, on October 4, 2009 at 10:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 45

Is it cheesy to wear cute flip flops for the ceremony and wedding. I would rather be comfortable. Its an outside wedding. I do not want to be sinking in the ground while saying "I do"...

I say do whatever you want as long as you are comfy! I would recommend however that you make sure that your flip flops are comfy for long term use. I wear flip flops all the time but I have had occasions where all day wear made my feet KILL. I am not sure what color you want but I will say that I have a pair of flip flops that are so comfy I will be wearing them until snow hits the ground. Unfortunately the brand name has worn off since I have worn them so much, but look for ones with memory foam or any kind of soft squishy bottom and you will be set. Also, most of them aren't that bad. I got mine at the beach (where everything is overpriced) for $10! Good luck!

I agree with Jessica. If you want to wear them, go for it. You may want to make sure that you don't make the flip flop sound when you are walking. Also, make sure that you won't "throw a shoe" (as I tell my daughter) while walking up the aisle. Otherwise, why not be comfortable?

Ok so I am totally alone in this I know...but I do not understand why women wear rubber flip flops with their formal gown...EVER! I am totally cool with comfort, but there are sooo many beautiful formal flats out there in the world! Rubber thong shoes are for the beach, not your wedding day. No where else in life is this acceptable..if you went to a formal corporate ball with your husband for example, would you even consider showing up in flip flops? Of course not! SO why is it ok to do this at a wedding when you spend so much on this amazing gown, professional hair and makeup, photographer, videographer, invite everyone you know, and then wear rubber shoes?!?! I know this has become the "trend" these days, so I'm not singling anyone out...I'm just saying I don't understand it or agree with it. That goes double for bare feet on the dance floor as well! Even guests are guilty of that one! It's not ok past prom...just my opinion!

I think its up to you. its your day and if you are having a very relaxed atmosphere and feel better that way then go for it. I do understand what Laura K. says too. I personally would never wear flip flops to a wedding or on my own wedding day. But im a heels girl all the way. Im going to wear more comfortable shoes for the reception and my bridesmaids are wearing flat strappy shoes as they all said they felt more comfortable that way (one due to foot surgery).

I say do whatever you want it's your day... BUT on "my fair wedding" (I'm addicted to wedding shows)....He was TOTALLY against it and said it was just horrible and blah blah blah... So I guess the experts say don't do it...but I wouldn't care what they say. It's your feet not theirs. But if your having doubts try buying a pair of cute (and comfortable) high heels that go with everything and wear them when you go out...I bought my first pair about 5 months ago and now I own like 10 pairs lol..love em

I have known brides who wear their heels with their beautiful formal dresses for the ceremony, then change into cute matching flipflops well into the reception. I have personally crocheted "funfur" and "eyelash" yarns around the straps to make them look more special, for brides and their attendants. Comfort counts, so don't forget to break-in your heels before the ceremony, and wear the flipflops or flats at the reception.

I'd say do it! I'm actually wearing flip flops to my wedding too! My gown is REALLY, REALLY poofy so I was realizing that since you won't be able to see my shoes anyway, why not go with comfort! I bought a pair of white wedge flip flops from Old Navy (so they're not entirely flat) and then I'm going to dress them up with some rhinestones, etc. I was looking at David's Bridal and they were wanting to charge $25 for a pair of dressed up wedge flip flops.... I'll be able to make them for EASILY under $10! Do what works for you... no one is going to care!

So many brides wear huge heels with their wedding dress, and end up taking them off because they're so uncomfortable. What's worse: bare feet, or flip flops? It's rare that somebody's going to catch a glimpse of your feet anyway, so do what's comfortable! If you are debating whether you should or not, maybe you could go for some other kind of comfortable flat shoe. I wore white ballet slippers with my wedding dress.....they were cute AND comfortable, and my feet weren't dying by the end of the day!

There are alot of options of comfortable shoes out there. I agree with Laura K. I think it's such a important day where you spend so much $ that I would find some comfortable shoes to wear with your gown. Once you go to the reception and much is already done, then I would suggest changing into flip flops. Just my opinion and hope you didn't get offended.

I agree with you Laura. I just can not fathom wearing $10 rubber shoes when I am spending so much money on my dress, hair ect. I am all about comfort but flip flops are just not my idea of elegant. I am wearing shoesn with just over 1/2 of an inch heal. I love them the are very pretty and comfortable.

I'd say do it. I agree "Dee" I'm addicted to wedding shows now as well. David said don't wear them, but depending on your dress no one will see your feet anyway. I know you can't in my dress. But maybe you can try slippers for the wedding and flip flops for the reception.

I'm actually surprised that some people agree with me...the flip flop thing has just become the norm these days...what I don't understand is how it became a choice between HEELS or FLIP FLOPS! These are NOT the ONLY 2 choices! There are other options that are comfy and flat without being rubber and tacky looking. I like the satin ballet flats or they have open toe formal flats these days. like this:

I know some dresses are poofy and cover the shoes but the toes still stick out when you walk and they show when you do the garter removal or just lift your dresses to dance a bit. With every little detail of the day being sweated over by us for a year, why do we just throw this detail away like it's nothing? and yes, bare feet is so much worse! But I've never been to a wedding (mine too) that at least one guest, usually more, end up dancing in fancy dresses and bare feet like kids! APPALLING!

I agree with laura, I am not a heel kind of girl, but I will be wearing them for the ceremony...however, because I am a sneaker freaker (addict, lol), I will be wearing customized "wedding" Nikes for the reception, and I am also providing a "flip flop" basket in my colors, for those that want to dance all night and be comfortble.

They have some beautiful satin ballerina type shoes on Dessy.com

I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing flip flops. I think it would be better to wear a nicer dressier pair. I seen a pair of guess ones I am going to get with rhinestones on them for my outdoor wedding. I do think it is a lot more difficult to find stylish flats that you like than it is for someone getting heels. I wish I could wear heels but it just wont work in the grass. Most people end up changing into flip flops later at the reception anyway so I say there is nothing wrong, do whatever you want.

WEll I have my beloved brown roxy fil flops that I love, and I planned on wearing them for the reception( I'm going barefoot for the ceremony, out doors) and they do go with my color scheme..but I do have a pair of flats in mind from www.dessy.com I tried some on in a store and they were super comfy and some in a ton of colors..So I'm up in the air up the flip flops or flats...But if you want the flip flops, go hard!
