Cheap venues

Connie, on March 8, 2018 at 12:24 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 15
Hey Smiley smile I’m looking for a beautiful venue for under a $1000 that can seat approximately 250. I prefer doing most things myself but also have lots of friends helping me out. Any suggestions? Smiley smile

I don't have any specific venues, but I highly recommend getting the different price points for different years and different days of the week. I was able to find my dream venue that would have been out of budget if we went with a "peak season" (late spring, summer, early fall) wedding. We also decided to do a Monday wedding to save money and have a smaller wedding. Best of luck to you!!

Where are you? That would help. Does it have to be an evening wedding? Have you found a local caterer?

I’m in Oklahoma. And yes,I would prefer an afternoon/evening wedding Smiley smile as for the caterer, I was hoping just to have some friends do the cooking, but I also realize that many places don’t allow that Smiley smile

Country clubs!!! My venue is $2k! Yacht clubs stuff like that! Very very reasonable and you can do everything yourself.

This is a good website to price venues https://www.wedding-spot.com/wedding-venues/Oklahoma/. Also please reconsider having your friends cook, there are so many liability issues with that. BBQ and Italian can usually be catered for around $15 a person.

Have you checked out the vendor tab first?

I do not recommend self-catering for 250 people. That’s a recipe for disaster. Pun kind of intended 😂

I’m assuming you are taking about a reception venue??? Or for both? Check out community centers (bonus if it’s a historic building with character), libraries, parks with shelters, maybe schools or colleges? Just throwing these out Smiley smile I would avoid all things ballroom or banquet related because you are likely to have to choose from preferred caterer...and/or pay through the roof! Public spaces for the win!

Yeah most places won't allow that because it is a liability. Also, your friends and family shouldn't be working on your wedding day! Find a venue that allows outside catering and look into BBQ or Italian as they tend to be on the less-expensive side. Town Halls, VFW, Community Centers and Parks (with buildings on site) will be less expensive options. You could also look into Restaurants since so much would be included (food, decor, linens, etc.)

The words large, beautiful venue and cheap don't really go together. A cheap venue is usually cheap for a reason. It's either not very attractive or it comes with few nice extras like tables and chairs.

I don’t have any specific places to recommend, however I would look into smaller museums. We are getting married at a very cool airplane museum and found that the cost was much lower than traditional venues in our area. Plus with all the really cool vintage planes we are saving on our decor budget a little.

Connie please don't self cater. It is way more work than people realize and after shopping, prepping cooking, storing.....it is not that big of a savings.

For a reception place (and I know I sound lie a skipping record here on WW) please don't dismiss VFW's, Legions and KC Halls. Some are recently remodeled and are quite nice and affordable. I live near a beautiful one (hard wood floors, vaulted ceilings) and it is $800 for a Saturday from 3 to midnight.

Look into BBQ or Italian for catering ideas.
