Changing mind on wedding gown...

LIZBETH, on April 12, 2018 at 12:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23
I ordered my gown from David’s last week. I am getting married April of 2019 and plan on loosing weight. I loved my dress and have been looking at other dresses since I ordered mine and I’m having second thoughts. Can’t afford another dress plus alterations and all the accessories... but can’t stop looking for a better one out there...

If you can’t afford another dress, you need to stop looking at other dresses.

You need to stop looking. You will always see a dress that looks nice. I saw many dresses that looked good until i put them on and i was like nope. I purchased a dress and decided i wasn't sure if i wanted it so i went to 2 other places to try on dresses and it confirmed that i compared every dress to mine and that mine was surely the one. You have to trust that you made the right decision, which is why its best to not rush or be talked into a dress. I tried on over 30 dresses before trying on mine so i had no clue why i was second guessing myself. I think it's because i went into seeking more sparkle and my dress doesn't have much. Also, once you have on your accessories and jewelry your gown will look amazing as the whole look will come together.

I agree if you don’t afford one stop looking. You are just going to make it worse.

You fell in love with your dress, now you need to move on to other items on your to do list. Many brides make the mistake of buying & looking some more. Dont fall into this. Once you occupy your mind with other items you will lose the feeling of searching

You will love it as soon as it comes in and you put it back on. A lot of brides have dress regret.. but looking at others is only going to make it worse.

If your dress hasn’t come in yet you have time to exchange it at davids. I understand dress regret and ended up with a second dress. Try on more dresses there and make sure you get what you want before it’s too late to exchange it.

I found mine early and have not given another dress a second thought. But if i did, then that's a sign for me that what I chose isnt THE ONE.

I haven't stopped looking at dresses since I found mine either I feel like I have major dress regret but then I look at my dress and fall back in love with it (online of course it's at my moms so I don't see it nearly as much as I would like too Smiley smile ) I've been told by other brides it's normal and once it's in and fitted to me I will be completely in love with my dress so I just keep going back to that.

But also in truly over dramatic fashion I complain about it to FH like ALL THE TIME. and then the next day I'm like I love it again hahaha poor guy LOL!

You should stop looking once you find a dress.. If you were going to continue looking, you should have put dress hunting on hold

I agree with everyone else. To add on, once you've solidified details (colors, photographer, flowers, etc.) don't look for them on Pinterest or in wedding magazines or on websites. Only look for inspiration on things you haven't made plans for yet. This will help prevent you regretting everything you've decided on already.

I bought a dress from David’s last summer but have since lost a lot of weight. I tried my dress on about 2 weeks ago and it’s way too big. I called them to see if they would do a size exchange and they agreed they would. In the meantime I had been still looking at other dresses online and saw a different dress that was exactly what I pictured for my wedding dress. So when I went into the store for the size exchange I asked them if it was possible to try on the other dress. They let me and I absolutely loved it! They let me exchange my dress for a completely different dress. It was just over $100 more though so I’m sure that could be part of why they didn’t mind. But I figured if they were willing to do a size exchange then a complete dress exchange shouldn’t be an issue.

So because you’ve bought your dress so far in advance and you’re working on losing weight they may be willing to exchange it as you get closer to your wedding. Especially if you’ve lost so much weight that it’s not possible to take in enough. My wedding is in June so I’m cutting it close for time and I wasn’t able to order my dress in petite because it wouldn’t be in before June. So just keep in mind the amount of time it would take for a new dress to come in.

So did you just ordered your new gown 2 weeks ago when you realized the other didn’t fit? Was it a rush order? When did they say you’ll have the new one and will they do any alterations? Why weren’t you able to do petite? Was it because that counts as a custom made order? I called them yesterday to ask about their policy. All sales are final in the store but they said they can exchange for a smaller size and/or a completely different dress of equal or greater value. I’m happy about that.

Yes I made an appointment to go in and try the dress in the correct size. While there I tried on the other dress and ordered it the same day and just paid the difference. It wasn’t put in as a rush order as they have the dress I want in their warehouse the woman told me. The petite is a special order so that wouldn’t have come in until August. But they told me the regular fit dress would be in no later than the first week of May. Which would still give me time to do alterations. The dress is a bit long but because of the lace and beaded detailing at the bottom it would be a lot to hem because they have to remove the lace and beading, then hem, then put the lace and beading back on. So I bought shoes with a higher heel and I’m wearing a ball gown slip which added to the fullness of the dress. With the slip and the tall shoes I don’t need a hem. All I will need is a bustle. I have a family friend who is a seamstress and she will be doing that for me. I have time to get a hem but with the amount of work involved it will cost more than I want to pay, especially because I just paid extra for the new dress.
