Changing dresses for reception..?

Jill, on October 23, 2012 at 11:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Is anyone planning on changing into another gown for the reception? I had originally planned on staying in the same gown. The problem is that I am so short, 5'1"and most gowns that I like require extremely high heels so that I don't look like the dress is wearing me. I cannot possibly wear skyscraper heels for more than 2 hours so I thought of possibly changing into a shorter dress and more comfortable shoes for most of the reception.

Is anyone doing this? If so, at what point during the reception are you changing gowns? Help!!!

I changed..but my story was a little different than "I just felt like it". i bought my dress and somewhere along the line I found another one, cheaper that i prefered. So as not to feel as though I wasted my money on my first dress, i decided to wear it for my reception. *sigh*

I changed it after taking pictures after the ceremony so I entered the reception with the other dress. that was the only spare time i had to change without interrupting the flow of things.

I'm not, but I know a lot of brides that do. Is it an option to have your dress hemmed so that you don't have to wear heels though?

I haven't decided yet if I want to or not. I'm caught between loving the idea and wanting to keep the dress I love so much on all night. If you don't wind up changing your dress, have you thought about changing to wedge heels or something of the sort?

I'm not... I'm going to suffer through 12 hours of wearing my heavy dress... I'm going to bust a move and enjoy my dinner... Although I think its a cool idea... when else do you get to wear your wedding dress?

I'm thinking of it. Problem is I haven't found one dress I like, let alone 2.LOL

But like you I'm 5'1" and not looking forward to wearing a long dress that I would probably trip on. Also my wedding is in Aug and can be 90-100 here, so not looking forward to sweating in my dress.

My other option was to get high heel sneakers...yep, I would do it..LOL

Curious to see what responses you get. I too have 2 dresses but they are both gowns but one is more sparkly then the other. I don't know when it would be good to change .

I Changed into a reception dress midway through the reception. The cocktail hour started at 6:00 and I changed around 9:15. By that time we had finished making our rounds to visit our guests. When I came out in the second dress, we did the cake cutting and bouquet toss...and then I was ready to party in my shorter, more comfortable dress.

I figure that I only get one day in my dress, so I'm going to wear it the whole time, even while dancing.

When you pick your dress, pick comfortable shoes with a low heel (or whatever you think you can wear all day) and then get the dress altered. Almost every bride has to get her dress altered; make the dress fit YOU, don't make yourself uncomfortable to fit into the dress.

I am also planning to change dress for my reception. Even I bought my costume from http://www.torontosbridalshow.com/ . Oh, I am so excited for that.

I'm changing towards the end into a short dress. We're leaving on a motor cycle and my gown is way too long. I'm afraid it will get caught. I do plan to change into more reasonable shoes after the first dance.

I would like to have two dresses and I'm currently searching for a shorter reception dress, but I haven't found one I like yet. My main problem is that I can't find a short, reasonably priced dress that still feels wedding-y to me.

I think I would change either between the cocktail hour and reception or after the special dances.

I am not changing mine! I have dreamed about this day for so long I will be in my princess get up from the start to the end! Smiley smile And plus I don't usually spend hundreds of dollars on a dress so I will make sure I get my monies worth!

I'm tall so I don't have to worry about wearing heels in fact I can't or I will be taller then FH.

I'm not. I can understand why some brides do have a second dress. As for me though, I am sad I only get to wear my wedding gown one day of my whole life, so I am gonna wear it all dang day!!!

I want to because I don't want to have a traditional wedding and because I'm a plus size bride. I don't think I should wear a long gown all day. If you have pretty legs, show them right?

I will be changing dresses. My dress is way too heavy to continue to wear the whole entire night. My hubby will be wearing his dress blues for the ceremony and he will also be changing during the reception. We will change our clothes right before dinner is served.
