Chalkboard sign users....how to transport?

Yasmina, on October 28, 2015 at 2:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hey all, quick question.

We're using 2 chalkboard signs for the wedding: one with instructions for the guestbook, and one with a quote for our memorial picture table...

How do you transport these with the writing already on them so it doesn't wipe off?????

This JUST occurred to me, and I'm having a panic moment.

You use white marker or chalkboard paint, not actual chalk.

First of all, remain calm and plan to pack some extra chalk with you.

Second of all, what about lying them flat on top of things? Are you flying somewhere or just driving, I forget.

Can you wait to write on it until you get to the venue?

I took it as she has already written on them but I could be wrong.

If you haven't then yeah, just wait.

We used a white chalk/paint pen on ours for our engagement pictures.

I am either going to use these markers (which clean with water, but won't smear) or cut out the sayings in vinyl using my Cricut.

Not yet, but I was planning to have it written before I give it to the lady who is setting it up...

Although...she has much better handwriting, so maybe I'll ask her. lol

I'll look for chalkboard paint this weekend though.

    Smiley laugh

    Thanks ladies. Smiley smile

Spray the board with hairspray to seal the chalk. You won't be able to erase it, but you can paint over the board with chalkboard paint if you want to reuse or resell it. Otherwise, I would put it inside a kitchen garbage bag, handle with caution, stacking it on top of whatever you are packing, and pack extra chalk for touch ups.

Chalkboard paint and the paint pen you want to use are different products. A white paint pen will look like chalk but cleaner and sharper. Chalkboard paint can be painted on any surface, and turns any surface into a chalkboard.

Did you use regular chalk or the marker chalk pen thing?

Regular chalk: Put newspaper over the area written on.

Chalk pen: Doesn't wipe off easily, but to avoid scratches I'd probably still cover it in newspaper.

So, pretty much just cover them in newspaper. Less abrasive than most paper so even if it does rub, it's not as harsh.

Edit: Just saw your comment. Michaels and Walmart both have them for just a few bucks :-)

We used chalk marker and once it dried nothing smudged so we just packed it in the car on top of everything else.

    You guys are freaking awesome.

Smiley smile Seriously...I was all calm, and then I was thinking about picking up the chalk today and had a moment.

I feel much better now. Smiley smile
