Chairs are for the ceremony and reception

Heather , on March 12, 2018 at 10:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 48
So I'm hoping there would be nice weather and we could set up chairs our doors for the wedding
We could do that early in the morning, my dad and me
But then for the reception inside at the tables for dinner I'm thinking we will need the same chairs
Is it rude to have guests carry their chair back inside?
I'm thinking most of them can carry their chairs I'm worried about a few of the elderly ones going to have some of us carry those ones in to make sure they get to their seats
How do I announce this? Or figure that out

I wouldn’t want to carry a chair if I were a guest, and I think most people wouldn’t either.

I feel like you’ll get plenty of eye rolls after announcing that they need to carry their own chairs, or some people just might not do it.

I think it's rude. I'm renting the extra chairs.

I wouldn't ask a guest to carry their chair, I'd recommend hiring someone for many reasons. Or rent extra chairs

Best of luck on your day 🙂

Can you hire a couple of local teenagers to move the chairs after the ceremony, during cocktail hour? It would probably be less expensive than renting two sets of chairs.

We did this for my brother's wedding. The wedding party carried the chairs inside while they and guests did the reviving line. All the chairs were inside before the last guest made it inside fit the reception appetizers. It was not a big deal. we are also very simple/practical people, and it didn't make sense to spend almost 300 dollars on chairs for 20 minutes for the ceremony...

At my wedding because seating is limited and there is absolutely no way to get extra chairs we are having the people that aren't getting pictures and watching the little ones move the chairs out of the way because of our outdoor set up.. we are also including in our wedding invitations a bring your own chair because everyone that is coming is really close family and they understand the problem of living in a small town.. I say if you have to make everyone carry their chair or designate people that aren't getting pictures taken to Carrey in the chairs and set them up depending on how many chairs there are..

Can’t your catering service take care of it? That’s what I usually see done as a DOC.

I have the same situation. Our ceremony area is only a couple yards away from our reception area so I’m having ushers and some close male friends load the chairs and move them to the reception area during cocktail hour.

Either hire someone to move the chairs or rent more chairs. It is very rude to ask your guests to do this.

I went to a wedding where they had us carry the chairs, and even in 5" heels I didn't care. If somebody cares that much over a light chair, they obviously have problems of their own lol!

I've never heard of this. If someone asked me to do this at a wedding I would be horrified. I would maybe hire someone to do just this or get the bridal party to help. I wouldn't ask your guests.

    Thanks!!
I didn't think it would be a huge deal
Some of us could help carry chairs
I like the idea of carrying them during the receiving line

    We don't have catering
We are making most of the food ourselves/buying from the store

Heather, you are having a wedding where people are bringing their own chairs, carrying their own chairs from from ceremony to reception and guests are bringing food/making your own food?
