The way that I look at it- in the end will it really matter to my guests if they sit on a chair cover or just a plain black banquet chair? The answer is no. I am not going to be getting chair covers and may not do bows either. I would rather put that money towards something that will matter such as the food, the photography, a good dj, or my honeymoon. I always think that the pictures of them look nice but I have been to several weddings where they did nothing to the chairs and as a guest I have never given a hoot.

I don't like them either. They are always creased and rarely fit right. If the chairs are really ugly, I'd rent a nice plain white wooden chair instead (my rustic barn wedding tonight had pine folding chairs; gorgeous)

I do like the ribbon weaving thing, but I bet it will take forever. Can you match your tablecloths to the chairs so they kind of disappear?

I despise chair covers. They scream 1980s to me and are rarely done to look otherwise (this is simply my opinion!). I think if the chairs are bad enough (which they don't look like they are horrible in the pic you posted, but it definitely depends on your wedding colors), then look into renting chairs from an outside source-it might end up being the same cost as chair covers. If you planned on using black table cloths then you could probably leave the chairs.

I am using chair covers only because the chairs at my venue are hideous. A bow wouldn't be enough to cover the ugly! If you have nice chairs, then a bow would be fine by itself. If you decide to use chair covers, look into buying them. I keep watching ebay and craigslist - you get them much cheaper in some cases than renting them. You can also resell them after you get done using them, so you get some of your money back.

With those chairs, I don't think just a bow would look right. I think you need either different chairs or chair covers.

I hate venues with ugly chairs and then have the nerve to charge you $3 per chair cover to cover them up! I hate the look of chair covers. I actually turned down venues that had ugly chairs because I wasn't paying more to pretty it up. Hopefully by me telling them that they have ugly chairs and that's why I'm taking my money elsewhere will help them upgrade to this time period.

Personally, I would save your money. I wouldn't bother with the chair covers, unless you are absolutely dying to have them. I've been to numerous weddings. As long as the chair isn't disgusting looking and is comfortable, people aren't even going to remember if you had covers on them or not. With the chairs that you have in the picture, I don't think bows would work either. Focus on what people will be looking at the most--table decor.
