Cescaphe/Curtis Center Weddings!!!! HELP!

M&MPALMER7, on March 1, 2016 at 8:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 39

Hi everyone,

I am freaking out! I booked our wedding with cescaphe over a year ago at the curtis center. (Background: cescpahe rents the curtis center and does not own it.) I was told there would be renovation to the venue this december-march. I go to the venue and nothing has been done! I called cescpahe and they told me the renovations are no longer happening. I said ok. Then the curtis center owners posts on facebook a picture of the new renovations they plan on doing. I called the curtis center owners and they told me they are renovating all summer starting in May. Then I called cescaphe and they told me they had no knowledge of that. Soo......wtf is going on. If they plan on renovating this May, what about the people who have booked weddings there this May, June, July...? Can they cancel weddings due to renovations?! I just want the truth. If they plan on screwing us over, can they at least let us know now so we have time to find another venue.

I'm a Curtis Center bride, too. When we booked, we were told that their first wedding of the year is March 8th and that renovations would be completed by then. I haven't spoken with my contact there in a while but maybe this is a reason to call them. I don't see how they could proceed with renovations during the busiest wedding months.

I've heard they are doing renovations also (I work around the corner). Is your contract with Cescaphe or with both Cescaphe & Curtis Center? I'm wondering if the site was unable to be used for your wedding if they'd offer you one of their other spaces like "V." Also, I can't imagine they'd start renovations in prime wedding season and make it where they were unable to host events. They'd be losing a ton of $$$.

    company I can't imagine they don't have a plan...

As of right now no renovations have been done.... The owner of curtis center told me renovations are happening starting in may...but cescaphe told me they have no idea.... My gut it telling me that something shady is going on. I feel like cescpahe and the curtis center are having problems and they are not telling us something.

I just have a feeling that curtis center could terminate the lease with the cescaphe and stop allowing weddings there. I wish someone would just be up front about it and let us know. Everyone I talk to is like "I don't know whats going on, but its fine, don't worry about it"

My contract is only with cescaphe, not with the curtis center. At this point all the other cescaphe venues are booked for our date. But cescaphe told me they have a contract with the curtis center through 2018...

Breathe, OP! I agree with the posters who said Cescaphe has a good reputation, and their weddings aren't cheap. I doubt they would be starting serious renovations that would cause cancellations during wedding season...the Curtis Center no doubt makes a pretty penny from every event, as well. I'd just call your contact directly and ask whether the renovations will impact your wedding in any way. Hope everything works out ok!

@MP123 Even though your contract is with Cescaphe, Cescaphe itself is contracted in some way with the Curtis Center. They make a lot of money from Cescaphe events, I'm sure, and have no interest in ruining that business relationship...I'm sure the wedding business is one reason for the renovations. I'd call Cescaphe first thing tomorrow, tell them what you heard and ask them to copy you on an email to the building manager confirming that your wedding will occur as planned....better to have it in writing! Good luck!!

OP, what Facebook page were you looking at that posted a picture of the renovations? I looked at The Curtis Center's page and it looks like they are bringing PJ Clarke's in, but I didn't see anything that said construction was starting on that in May. I plan on getting in touch with my contact too and just want to make sure I know where you saw this information so I can reference it.

I've talked on the phone to both cescaphe and the curtis center and they both sound like they are hiding something from me. They keep saying, "I can't say, but, don't worry about it". I've looked on the curtis center website and they talk all about renovations and turning the venue into a resturant but never even mention the weddings. To me it sounds like they want to be done with the weddings.

Thanks! I just looked at it and it does say PJ Clarke's will be ready to open in late summer, so that would have to mean construction taking place throughout the summer. I'll be calling tomorrow for sure!

I'm not too concerned with PJ's because that will not be directly in the atrium. (There are other restaurants in the curtis center that do not disturb the weddings) I'm concerned about the resturant/bar they want to put where the fountain currently in (directly in the atrium).

@love4slife When is your wedding? Mine is Dec 2016

They told me during my tour that the fountain would be removed and a 2-story bar would be put there. They did show renderings of the cafe seating that would be in the atrium, but I just assumed that would be closed down at 5pm on Fridays and not reopen till Monday morning to accommodate weddings. Maybe that is the case? My wedding is September 2nd.

Hey OP, I talked to my contact today. She said she had my file on her desk to call regarding the construction, as apparently, they are updating all their couples. Anyway, she said the fountain in the atrium is no longer being removed and they will no longer have the 2-story bar in there. Cocktail hour will be held where it always used to be held in front of the Tiffany Mosaic and they are going to refresh the fountain with new greenery. She said their creative team is working with the construction company and the owners of the building and specified they had a lease and that all of their events would be accommodated. Their first wedding of 2016 is this Saturday and I'm sure they go into full swing after that with most of their weekends booked.

She said they will be keeping everyone informed about the construction, but I didn't get the impression that anything would impact our wedding or any other weddings, so I think we are good! I hope you see this update!

Hey! Yes, I talked to someone today as well. She told me that cescaphe and the curtis center are having problems. Cescaphe has a lease with the curtis center through 2018 so legally the curtis center has to honor it BUT that doesn't necessarily stop the curits center from starting renovations on the fountain right in the middle of our weddings and breaking their lease with cescaphe. As of right now the people at the curtis center told me they plan on starting renovations to the fountain in May and breaking their lease. If this is true and it happens, I'm sure cesaphe will take them to court but that doesn't really help us find another wedding venue in short notice.....

I spoke with both cescpahe and curtis center. Cescaphe is telling me everything is fine because of the lease and the curtis center is telling me they don't plan on honoring the lease so.....
