ceremony rain plan?

APZ, on March 14, 2017 at 9:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

Hi All! My wedding is next weekend (25th) and it looks like there is potential for rain :/

We planned an outdoor/uncovered ceremony at the venue, but need to sign off on a rain plan in case we end up having to use it.

Our options are to:

1) move it onto the covered veranda. There are drop down sides to the veranda to prevent rain from blowing in, but it is not quite big enough to seat all of our guests, so this would require a few rows of seats for parents, grandparents, small children and the elderly...with the remainder standing. Obviously that's not ideal. This is also the location that our cocktail hour will be at.

OR

2)Move it into the ballroom where the reception would be held...I know this makes more sense logically, but getting married in a plain ballroom is probably my least favorite option of ceremony spots. The room would be flipped for reception after ceremony

I always dreamt of an outdoor wedding..

I would pick the ballroom. I don't know where you are, but March is cold in most places, and cold rain sounds miserable. And if your ceremony is any longer than 10 minutes, people aren't going to want to stand.

Thanks guys--I figured that was the right choice...but needed to be told.

We are in Georgia. The temp should be in the 60's or 70's during the ceremony. A few portable heaters are available at the venue for back up though in case it dips any lower.

Between rainy and crowded versus dry and comfortable, I recommend the indoor option. Reception halls do a wonderful job creating indoor chapel settings with room for all your guests. Besides, it's not going to rain anyway. Think positive. Best wishes!

Choosing the ballroom is definitely the safe route. I definitely would be distracted if I had to unknowingly stand through a whole ceremony in heels.

Hopefully it won't rain. But definitely ballroom. You don't want people standing.

Ballroom. You can't really, gracefully have the ceremony in the same place as the cocktail hour. I don't know when your venue makes you commit, but make a decision in the morning and stick to it. Don't spend your day watching the weather.

    Good luck!

Not to sound preachy, but this is why I picked a beautiful indoor venue for both my ceremony and reception.

But to answer your question, I would choose the ballroom. It may not be what you envisioned for your ceremony, but you and your guests will be dry and comfortable.

Ballroom....but hopefully the weather will be clear for the ceremony! It rained for most of my good friend's reception, but it was perfect just for the beautiful ceremony outside under the trees.

Ballroom please (and pray for no rain!)

Went to a wedding at the end of March where the ceremony was held outside. It was also raining. We were out there longer as the ushers walked each couple with an umbrella. We were outside for almost an hour and everyone was freezing. The temperature was high 50s but rain always makes it colder.

Crossing my fingers for no rain for you, but I think I'd also go with the ballroom! If it ends up raining hard the veranda could still get kind of wet, and if it's warm and wet with the sides down it could feel humid and sticky Smiley sad Trust me from my wedding day - your hair will wilt instantly!

Could you get creative with the ballroom layout and use a lot of the reception decor for the ceremony? I'd try to think of ideas to use the centerpieces as ceremony decor, or see if you can rent some drapery or if your venue has large potted plants that can help divide the space!

As much as I want to say the veranda, I have to go with the ballroom as well. You have to make sure all of your guests are comfortable and being properly hosted. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that the rain stays away for you on your day! Just remember, regardless of the outcome, you get to marry the love of your life and that's what truly matters.

You should never make your guests stand when there are some guests sitting. It's rude. So I would go with the ballroom. Obviously it's not ideal but if you plan for it, you can make it something that you like with decorations and lighting. Sorry this is happening to you! Good luck!
