Ceremony musicians- harp, violin, cello

Whitney, on December 17, 2014 at 12:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I really want a harp for my ceremony music but want to add on extra instruments because the church is quite large and I am going for a very grand theme overall for the wedding. I was considering a harp, violin, and cello. Has anyone used this combo before or harp with other instruments?

I've officiated weddings with harp, violin, and cello -- that combination sounds beautiful together!

I agree. I cant afford it at my wedding, however, rarely have I heard a more beautiful sound than the sound that comes from a cello... I actually am thinking about acoustic guitar, but we are having an outdoor wedding.

I would definitely only hire them as an existing combo, though-- I'm not sure how well it would work out to hire the three musicians separately and expect them to play well together the day-of.

Those will be great together!! Another awesome combo is Flute, violin, cello. Or even adding an obeo into the mix can be amazing!

Just a tip if you're considering a budget -- if you're in a large city, they usually have a boys and girls orchestra that teaches young kids music. You can ask them for kids in high school to play and it will be a fraction of the cost.

I didn't do this, but I agree that it is a beautiful mix. I play cello personally and have played for weddings--it is an ideal wedding sound. Piano and cello is also a great mix, and probably a lot easier to find than a harp/violin/cello trio.

Another good place to look for musicians are colleges-- most music departments have some kind of referral service to match ppl looking for musicians to students and even instructors. . . and more than likely, even if there aren't harp/cello/violin students already playing together, they should be more flexible about collaborating, finding the right arrangements, and practicing than professionals.

Go for it!!! The sound of a Cello can bring me to tears. If I had the money in the budget, I would totally get one.
