Ceremony look vs reception look

Claire, on September 29, 2016 at 12:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

Do I have to change up my look from the ceremony to the reception? I am buttoning my dress train up but do I have to change my hair do or make up? I'm not being lazy or cheap it's just if I love my look at the ceremony why change for the reception? Is it etiquette to change it up?

There's no need to change it up!

I've never heard of such a thing being "etiquette." Where what you want, when you want.

I'm bustling my dress and removing my veil.

I definitely don't think you have to change up your look.

There is definitely not reason to change your look. Some people change it, but it's because they want to.

The only change I've usually seen is removing the veil and bustling the dress. Depending on your initial choices in that category, it may be completely unnecessary.

I personally am only bustling my dress and removing my veil. I've seen some also change shoes and had their hair go from updo to down. It's up to you and what you want and feel comfortable spending time/money on.

All this ^ There's no way I'm missing any part of my reception for drastic look changes. Do what makes you happy!

I've only ever seen the dress being bustled, veil off, maybe a change of shoes (I'm planning on kicking my shoes off altogether), and another coat of lip gloss/stick. I've never heard of it being etiquette to change your look in between!

I know in recent years there are people that have an entire different dress for the reception which to each their own but IMO I think that is kind of wasteful...so spend probably close to $5000 on the two dresses for your wedding. I'm not buying a dress to wear for 1-2 hours.

Most brides that I have seen, they just bustled their dresses and take out the veil.

If it makes you comfortable you can change your dress for the dancing but is not required

I just bustled my dress. A little while after the first dance, I also took off my veil. I was definitely not interested in changing my dress (I wanted to live in it lol) and there wouldn't have been time to change hair and makeup even if I wanted to.

I'm changing my dress because it's a heavy ballgown. I will be changing the jewelry too. My hair and makeup will stay the same but I will be removing the veil.

Huh? "Have to"? Of course not. Do what you want. If you don't want to look different then don't.

If you do then go for it.

I don't understand changing if you've spent so much time and money achieving the initial look in the 1st place. I'm just going to bustle my dress and take off the veil

No, you can wear it all the way it is all day. I dont' really get even changing dresses. There was one person on here who had like 5 or 6 dresses... no thank you!

No need to change anything. Buttoning up your dress is enough so you don't drag it around all night.

You don't have to. We both changed our look for the reception, but that was because we did a second ceremony.

I'm bustling my dress and my hair will be down for ceremony and then my hair dresser is going to put it up for reception. I might do some touch up makeup as well. BUT, I'm going to want to get out and start spending time with my guests pretty quickly, since we're not doing a first look.
