Ceremony and reception timeline

Jessica, on July 20, 2020 at 8:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
Im starting to plan my wedding. It’s going to be in October on a Saturday and we will not have a time limit (we are also staying on site in a cabin). I’m unsure of how long a wedding day typically takes and how much time we will need for certain parts. When would be a good time to start my wedding ceremony and to put on the invitations?

This also depends on how long your ceremony will take and how long you’re gonna take to get ready. Other factors to consider are if you’re doing first look and photos before or want to do them during a cocktail hour or after ceremony?

I agree with Melle - we can be more helpful with more information about your plan for the day. If it's helpful for ideas, we're starting to get ready at 9, first look/formal portraits at 2, ceremony at 4:30, cocktail hour at 5, reception at 6, after party at 10.

Hi Jessica! I always think it's easiest to work backwards from the end of the day to get your start times! On average wedding receptions tend to be about 4 hours long, with a 1 hour cocktail hour - so you can start with the end of the night at say 11pm, then start working backwards from there to the start of your ceremony.
