Centerpiece ideas for bumble bee themed wedding

Andrea, on September 14, 2011 at 2:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I met my FH about 3 years ago at a Halloween costume party shortly after I moved to Miami for graduate school. For the longest time after the party, everyone referred to me by my costume rather than by my name. To this day, my FH and his friends still call me "bumble bee" from time to time.

Last night my FH and I came up with the idea of doing a bumble bee/"Meant to bee" themed wedding. We found some awesome bumble bee cake toppers and invitations, but haven't purchased them yet. I think that we could have a lot of fun with this theme!

We had already decided to give out some of my grandparents' home harvested honey with honey dippers for our favors. The crevices in the dippers will serve as place card holders.

Can you think of any good centerpieces that will go with our theme? I want them to be classy, and not childish. I want it to look like a wedding and not a child's birthday party. I appreciate all of your help!

Black and gold rocks mixed in a vase, Use yellow roses or dandelions for the flowers.

Thanks Rossi. I kind of want to avoid having black in the centerpieces. I think that it may clash with the venue a little bit. This is a picture of the inside of the venue (sorry I didn't include this in the original post).

And last but not least... Smiley smile Hope these might spark some ideas for you. There are ways to do the bumblebee theme without having black incorporated into the decor in a way that makes it too stark.

I think some yellow flowers would be lovely, while keeping it classy. You already have a lot going on with the actual theme itself.

Also, do you have a flowergirl? What is she wearing? There's a reallly cute bumble bee dress I saw on sale at Sears the other day. It'd be perfect.

I love the story behind this. Be sure to make it known during the wedding in case you have someone there that might not know - because it's way too cute.

I think it's adorable, but a little bumble will go a long way! Black tablecloths with yellow flowers; maybe some curly willow branches sprayed black....

and absolutely have the wedding ceremony reference this! Its too cute not to!

Oh my gosh you guys, thank you! These are such wonderful ideas that I'll definitely have to share with my FH and my mom. We're so excited now that we've come up with idea. We've been engaged already for a little over nine months (we engaged on Christmas), and we've been excited for sure, but since we've come up with this theme, it's really brought our excitement to a new level. Other than you WW-ers the only other people who know about our idea is my FH and my mom. We've had the unfortunate experience of having friends who get married before us steal some of our past ideas. I want to let a couple more weddings pass before we consider opening up about our plans to everyone. That's also one of the reasons why I'm so thankful that I can share my ideas with all of you (I'm dying to share them!).

We've decided that we're going to make our colors be navy, grey, and yellow with some white accents. Here are a few things that we've decided to purchase:

Also, before we came up with the idea of this theme, we had planned on making our ceremony programs into fans. My mom had the idea of making the fans into the shape of a beehive. I'm going to see if the vendor that we're buying our invitations and table numbers from would be willing to make the fans for us or if they would be willing to sell us the cardstock cut out in the shape of beehives so that we can make our own fans.

Do you think that we should include the story behind our bee theme in our ceremony or in the ceremony programs?

Andrea, those are some really cute ideas. I think that it would be a neat idea to have the the cardstock cut into the shape of a hive. However, if that didn't work out, you could always have a bumblebee border or something to that effect to tie the theme in. I also think it would be an adorable idea to include the story behind the theme in your ceremony programs. It would be a nice little story for guests to read while they are waiting. You could also tell the story from both of your perspectives, which would be sweet.

Also, you aren't alone with keeping your theme and ideas secret. I am not too concerned about having friends take ideas because I only have 2 friends who are engaged, but I want everything to be a surprise until it is time! Smiley smile

Thanks JLu! The bumble bee border is a good idea. I think that we'll definitely do that if we're unable to do the programs in the shape of a beehive.
