Centerpiece help!

Rachel, on January 5, 2018 at 1:51 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 23
Help! I’m trying to think about what to do for centerpieces but everything is so expensive 😩. For a single fake flower it’s $5 and I need to do 14 centerpieces. I have no idea what to do!

Centerpieces have been the the bain of my existence recently too. I met with a florist yesterday who helped me a lot with brainstorming styles. If you're thinking of doing submerged flowers in a tall vase with water, use artificial flowers. I typically don't like artificial bc I think they look fake but if they're under water it won't matter as much. So now I'm thinking single rose stems in submerged water in tall cylinder cases purchased from Quickcandles.com (cheapest I've found in varying heights) with floating candles and fake pearls at the bottom of the vase as filler.

Fresh greenery is really cheap. Have you spoken to a florist and asked for a quote? What is your budget? You can use lots of greens or a cluster of really small centerpieces are really cute. I probably wouldn't DIY floral normally but this seems like it could be really easy.

I'm pretty much replicating this exactly. I bought tall white candles from the dollar tree for $1 each, 75 of them. I'm buying the gold mercury votives from quickcandles.com in bulk 75 for $50. The greenery I'm buying in bulk from Sams as well for a really cheap price. I'm also doing 12/13 tables. I plan on getting tables numbers 1-12 for $24 from oriental trading. I'm also ordering 200 long lasting (6 hour burn time) tea light candles from Amazon for $20. Flowers are definitely expensive, and we are doing silk for the bouquets to cut costs but these tables were too elegant and I'm really happy with the prices I've found!

Girl IDK where you're buying flowers at for $5 a piece but I know what you mean that they are expensive. Acmoore and Hobby lobby flowers can ADD UP. I am using dollar store flowers for mine with dollar store vases (and vases are 2 for 1.00 at Acmoore right now) but DIY can definitely be the way to go to save money on centerpieces. What is your budget? Theme? Colors? Id love to hear more and help you with finding things for yours! here's a picture of mine SO FAR:

Where did you get the vases from? I like the idea for the dollar store candles but when I've looked for vases in varying heights at the dollar store and other typically inexpensive crafty type places (Michael's, Hobby Lobby), they only have one or two different heights and I want three. To buy three different height vases, I've found that Quickcandles.com is the cheapest and they have the sets with candle and vases together.

So I'm actually using these exact candles that I got at the dollar store. The glass is filled with the white wax. Then I'll be using the gold mercury votives as well with the eucalyptus greenery arranged like the first pic I showed you.

Also go onto dollar trees website. They seem to have a bigger collection there and I ordered the 75 candles right to my local store and picked them up!

These are all great ideas! Thanks for sharing! I'm not quite onto centerpieces yet, but I'm getting ideas for when I get that far.

Have you checked the dollar stores for fake flowers? That would be $14 and some have multiple flowers in each thing. Wire cutters can split them so you can spend less money.

If you're into mason jars those can be pretty cheap and you can do all sorts of things to them. Also candles are relatively inexpensive and always look great on tables. And yes greenery is the core of all my decor. Less is usually more lol!

We’re trying to stay under $500 mostly because our venue will provide the vases and base mirrors and little things like that. We definitely like more traditional things (the rustic theme seems super popular right now and just isn’t our thing so it’s hard to find anything)! Our colors are a deep purple and silver and all of the cheaper flowers like at dollar tree are pinks and lavenders 😩. I think the hardest thing has been finding my colors. Our venue provides almost everything but any touch of color has to be provided by us and it’s driving me crazy! I love your colored vases and your flowers look so pretty! 😍

Personally I'm thinking about doing fish bowls with glow fish, which I know a lot of people don't like because the fish usually get forgotten/killed but ours would be going coming home with us to live in our 35 gallon fish tank.

Girl you are doing the same colors as I am and my venue also provides the basics. Hobby Lobby had a ton of flowers in that purple shade and they were half off this week. Not sure how long the sale is lasting. I think if the flower is under water in a vase it's not going to matter if it's an exact color match. You could also use the submersible LED lights in the bottom of the vase which will change the color too. I don't know if you're planning on doing uplighting in your reception room but if you use purple for that it will make everything look purplish too.

I got really lucky. After summertime a lot of stuff went on sale for outside decor. I picked up 11 White lanterns which I'll put LED candles in and some baby's breath as well as fake moss which was on sale at Michaels. As for the other 11 tables I mixed and matched. Since I'm going for a "Vintage" feel, I got all different sizes and shapes of candle holders, all along the same color though, you don't want to clash too much. For flowers I have a friend who owns a business so she can get wholesale flowers for cheap, and we'll be setting up the centerpieces and flowers ourselves the night before. You can also check out Costco or your local Grocery store that has a florist section. Definitely the cheapest route to go.

Thank you! Acmoore definitely has darker purple vases right now at 2 for $1.00 which would save money, but if the venue is providing vases you wont need them. Amazon is an alternative to store bought fake flowers because on amazon you can buy bulk for cheap. try finding some there! Best of luck! Smiley heart

I know I will be making these, but I haven't quite figured out how I am going to style them/include flowers or greenery....

    Vases - dollar store
Lace - $5 a yard at Joanns or Michaels. Be sure to use a coupon to get it for even less! Only need two yards maybe depending on fabric width.
Candles - already bought mine during the Christmas sales, but candles shouldn't be too expensive
Mirror - Consider checking goodwill for interesting mirrors. Otherwise Joanns had some nice ones for $5, but with coupons you can get it for less.
Fairy lights - I purchased some fairy lights to try in the vases instead of candles for the larger ones. $3 per string at Walmart
