Celebrate their marriage or wedding?

Jersey, on January 25, 2016 at 2:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 32

Okay, invitation wording question:

On the template I ordered, it put "invite you to celebrate their marriage."

But now I'm over thinking. Should it be "wedding" instead of marriage? I don't know why but I was thinking that celebrate their marriage sounds like we will be married already.

Thoughts?

I attached a picture of the format.

I like 'celebrate their wedding' better. I have zero logic behind that.

Hmm I don't think the word matters there, BUT, if you can change it and it bothers you then go for it!

A lot of WPD invites say that, for some reason. I kept "celebration of marriage" because, well, we're already married, so I guess that's what people will be celebrating? I think it's fine either way.

I prefer marriage because a wedding is a party and a marriage is the thing. Like people are coming to witness your marriage and celebrate it, not witness your wedding and celebrate it.

Hahaha, Celia! That back and forth is my problem. Now I've said it so many times in my head, neither one sounds right.

And yeah, I can change it. I just got the proof from WPD and this is my last chance to make changes haha. So obviously the overthinking has begun.

The marriage is the reason you are celebrating, the wedding is the title of the event. You wouldn't invite people to a party to celebrate the party correct? you were right the first time.

I like it using marriage better. You could also consider: celebrate their love, celebrate as they become one, celebrate as they are joined in marriage. I've looked at too many invitation templates.

I like celebrate their union or my other pick would be wedding.

marriage sounds like something you have.

wedding sounds like something you do

also- no logic behind that either.

I just put "... invite you to their wedding" on ours. Simple! :-)

I prefer "celebrate their wedding". "Celebrate their Marriage" does sound like its something that already is and not going to be. I'm probably overthinking it too.

I love the simplicity of your invitations by the way.

I think what's throwing me off is that I said "celebrate the marriage of" and then the names, but you have it after the names.

I think either is fine though.

Haha thanks ladies! I think marriage sounds better with the word celebrate, but I didn't know if I should be completely rewording it to say wedding instead. But it sounds like it doesn't fucking matter! Even better Smiley smile

I like "celebrate their marriage" better, but if you're really torn on it, you could always change it to a completely different wording that flows better for you.

"Get your butt to NJ and drink champagne with me!" Is that more acceptable? lol

I put marriage. I thought, overthought and thought some more. In the end, I just got tired of thinking. They know what I meant. lol
