Celebrate or Skip: Valentine's Day πŸ’•πŸ’

Do you and your partner celebrate Valentine's Day? Or do you skip it? If you celebrate it, what do you do to celebrate?

We celebrate it, but mostly because FH likes it. I’m…not a fan lol. But we just do little gifts, like a card and like this year I got him themed coffee beans. And then we go out to eat. I would be totally fine if he wanted to forget about it after the wedding, though.

We more or less skip it. Our dating anniversary is February 7th, so we've always just kind of rolled our anniversary and Valentines day into one, but put way more emphasis on our anniversary. My FH travels for work, so we just celebrate either the weekend before or after. Our tradition has been one of us planning a surprise weekend getaway and we just alternate who plans each year. I'm guessing we probably won't really celebrate it much after we get married.

I love Valentine's Day Smiley smile any excuse to celebrate love is a good day in my book! We usually go out for a nice dinner and exchange gifts.

I like that you do small gestures for Valentine's Day! Those seem to have more meaning and practicality, especially coffee beans! My husband and I are not a fan of the holiday, but we end up doing something similar to you: usually a dinner out somewhere. We skip the gifts though.

Combining Valentine's Day and your anniversary is a fun way to celebrate! I also love your idea of alternating between who plans the weekend getaway each year! Where are some of the places you've previously traveled?

We typically keep these trips pretty close to home within a few hours of driving.

Our first anniversary we happened to be on our first vacation together in Florida - around the Key Largo area
2nd - I surprised him with this bed and breakfast place where they converted old train cars into rooms (Minnesota)
3rd - he took me to Omaha, Nebraska to go to the big zoo there
4th - covid so we just got a hotel down in the cities (Minnesota)
5th - he took me to the great sand dunes national park in Colorado

We have always skipped it and are both happy with the status quo.

I love your statement about any excuse to celebrate love! So true! Love should absolutely be celebrated often. Dinner and gifts are a fun tradition! What types of gifts do you normally get each other?

We do something little each year. Our first year we spent it playing video games and this year we are watching a movie and getting dinner. However, we are celebrating on the weekend because of our work schedules. I just got him some sweets and I think he’s getting me flowers πŸ’ for today.

My FH travels for work and stopped there so he knew he wanted to bring me there! It ended up being stupid cold when we went but still so much fun! I really want to go back in spring/summer when it's warmer. I need to go back to my sea lion friends lol

And the train cars were so cool! This one was called The Whistlestop in New York Mills, MN. It was such a fun experience - I'd definitely recommend it or something similar!

He's gotten really into Yellowstone lately, so I got him a cowboy hat and put a note inside of it saying he could wear it to a concert for a country artist I got us tickets to see Smiley smile

We generally do something smaller- candy or something small and a date night. This year we're making dinner at home because I tested positive for covid the day after getting home from our destination wedding so I can't go anywhere without a mask until Thursday Smiley xd So I got him candy and a plant for his office. I was most excited though to get him a card that said husband since we've been married for two weeks!!!

We often buy each other little gifts, so we celebrate Valentine's Day. It's also a great reason to go out on a date.

Very cool! My husband and I aren't a fan of the holiday, so we really don't do much to celebrate, though we usually end up using it as an excuse to go out to dinner, lol.

Yeah, we do, I crocheted him a sweater and he gave me a Godzilla piggy bank to save up for the wedding. I posted a picture of it in the proposal thread not realizing there was a dedicated Valentine's Day thread lol
