Catholic Wedding Mass- Music and Processional

FutureMrsS, on July 1, 2017 at 12:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi everyone!

So I am finalizing the details of our ceremony music and the order of the procession. I have spoken with the priest and music director who both say there is quite a bit of flexibility regarding who enters first. I'm wondering how others have done it . Do the priest, deacon, and alter servers enter first to one song and then everyone sits and the wedding party enters? That was what the music director suggested, it just seems strange to me to have everyone sit right after the priest enters. Also, did you have one song for the parents, groomsmen, and bridesmaids and then change the song when the bride entered?

Thanks!

Most of the time, there are three songs: one for the priest, grandparents, and parents to enter; one for the bridesmaids (and groomsmen if they're processing, either together or groomsmen first) and and children in the wedding party; then a third song for the bride to enter.

I've never seen everyone stand for the entrance of the priest, but if that's customary where you are, the way your music director suggested would work. If you want an unplugged ceremony, that would actually be a good time to remind people to turn off their phones (or at least their ringers!)

The congregation ALWAYS stands for the priest's entrance at Mass!

The priest always enters first and the guests stand for his entrance. I would make the unplugged announcement before anyone processes.

It's fine for the congregation to sit for the entrance of the groom, GMs, BMs, RB, and FG, then stand again for the entrance of the bride. We Catholics like a full body work out during mass!

Thank you all! Good point about having an unplugged ceremony.

We are doing it the "traditional american way" (at least that's what the deacon called it). The Deacon and FH will be up front before the procession even starts. I didn't have much of a preference in the matter so I let the music director and the deacon work out what would work the best.

Everyone (guests) sit first and then everyone from the altar. First priest and the the altar servers.
