Catholic wedding - deacon - Covid19

Tiffany, on March 25, 2020 at 3:58 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 4
So with all this COVID19 stuff going on we are trying to have backup plans for our June wedding...

Our plan A is that our original plan works out and life is good (playing it day by day). Scoot down to plan c- we “elope” in a sense. My fiancé’s father is a deacon. Would a deacon be able to marry us (in catholic approved way) if the church is still on lockdown? We already had our precana and done everything else we need to do to get married in a Catholic Church.

He should be able to. You would need a couple of people as witnesses, but you would also need to be able to file for your marriage license. Would your county clerk be open for in person appointments if the church is still restricted?

Thank you!!! Playing it day by day still couple months away. My state is currently partially/mostly shut down but hopefully by then somethings will begin to open, if we are safely in the position to.

Have you checked your diocese website? I have checked on mine and they are only allowing the witnesses, couple, and their parents to attend the wedding. Remember this is on my diocese website. You would have to check yours. But i believe you should be fine in june. Mine is in 3 weeks. I am going to keep checking the website. Hopefully i am allowed to have my baby sisters in there with me. I doubt you have to worry about it. But it's good to have a plan b.

Hi Tiffany, I'm sorry you're having to come up with backup plans but it sounds like you have some options! Like Anna said your diocese and church will have their own rules about what they will allow so I would reach out to them. You have some time yet, and hopefully things will be back to normal soon - if you want to talk to other June couples here's a discussion where they are connecting June 2020 Weddings - How's everyone feeling?
