So I'm not getting married at my parish because we wanted to get married in the chapel of our Catholic University where we met. Which is fine and dandy and we've found someone to marry us. But when we asked him what kind of music was appropriate he just said, "I personally don't care. I guess...

So I'm not getting married at my parish because we wanted to get married in the chapel of our Catholic University where we met. Which is fine and dandy and we've found someone to marry us. But when we asked him what kind of music was appropriate he just said, "I personally don't care. I guess nothing too modern and the diocese won't mind." We're just doing a ceremony - no mass. And I basically have 2 questions - 1. Does the song have to change between my wedding party walking down the aisle and me walking down the aisle? Or can I just have one song to be played for the whole thing? 2. What songs are appropriate? Can I get away with a classical piano piece even if it's not ''Catholic'' per se? Thanks in advance!

My priest said he didn't care what was played. My organist chose what to play when everyone was being seated, my bridesmaids walked in to "Canon in D", I walked in to Jonathan Cain's version of "Bridal March", "Ave Maria" was played after one of the readers (was my late grandmother's favourite song), "I will be here" was played during the candle lighting, and "wedding march" was our recessional song. I forget what was played after the second reader, but I left that up to the organist from what I remember. Smiley smile

Here is the bridal march that I used, it brought tears to my eyes!

Its getting a little close to your wedding but I thought I'd reply anyway. Our church coordinator is also the music minister for the church and he had us pick two different songs. You want to make the distinction to the congregation that you're coming down the aisle.

@Mrs. Murdie... you're lucky! we had maybe 10 songs to choose from.
