How much is everyone's budget for catering ? We are having 100 guests at our wedding and thought around $4000 would be reasonable. However, it seems like the catering may end up being thousands of dollars more ! I just wanted to get an idea of what most brides are spending or what route they went...

We wanted buffet style with maybe a couple of appetizers.

This varies so much for each location so what I pay likely isn't even remotely relevant since I'm in the Midwest. Our catering works out to about $15-16 per person depending on whether we add more options. We are having a taco bar with a beef, chicken, and vegetarian option. Rice, refried white beans, sour cream, fresh pico de gallo, fresh guac, lettuce, cilantro, cheddar, feta, sauteed peppers and onions, tomatoes, raw onions, fresh flour tortillas, and homemade fried corn tortillas. We are also doing appetizer trays provided by the caterer. Setup, service, cleanup provided.

ETA: This doesn't include drinks or alcohol. Luckily we are able to purchase our own and will have a bartender serving.

Around $6,700.00 for food for 75 people (see menu) and staff. This doesn't include beer and wine bar, linens, plates, etc.

Food and location were our top priorities, though. The tasting was wonderful, and the caterer is turning into a fantastic resource on other planning aspects. I know a lot of couples don't take the time to actually eat at the wedding, but by gosh, we are...especially the mac and cheese station after 8 months of clean eating!

We're paying $10,400 (plus gratuity) for catering and beer and wine bar for 225 people total. Breakdown is:

$20.50 pp for buffet ($12.50 pp for 3-10 year olds and free if under $3)

$14.75 pp for bar ($4.00 pp for under 21). This was broken down into different costs like first 2 hours were more expensive than the other hours. I don't remember exact breakdown but $14.75 pp was the average cost of it total.

Rental plates, cups, silverware is around $900

    Tax

    Servers at $150 per server

Buffet includes BBQ, roasted chicken quarters, shrimp and grits, 1 pan of veggie lasagna that we will word of mouth tell our vegetarians about instead of putting it on the buffet line for everyone to get, mashed potato bar, green beans, mixed green salad. Cocktail hour will have boiled peanuts, bruschetta, and pimento cheese dip.

Bar has water and iced tea set up on a table so people can get it without going to the bar then beer and wine bar. We updated some of the beers to nicer local beers so that upped the price a bit on the bar. Currently asking about adding coffee to our menu so that will be an additional ~$200 including the addition of coffee cups to the rental contract.

For the amount of food we're getting, I think my catering cost is a pretty good deal. We tasted it first too and it's delicious.

Edit: We have a lot of kids invited because I'm the second youngest cousin and all of my cousins have at least 2 kids. In my family, you really can't get away with not inviting them because the rest of my family wants to see everyone's kids at a wedding. I want to see them too honestly. So I'm glad I asked about reduce price for kids. We'll have 10 kids under 3 (free), 15 kids age 3-10 (reduced price), 5 from 10-21 (reduced price on bar). So our total adult number is actually 195.

$190/person for food and open bar. We are serving a duet entrée (haven't made our selection yet) and vegetarian option. I can't remember our cocktail hour food but I believe it's 3 passed appetizers and 3 stations.

We will be paying $75-80 per person, which includes 4 food stations (entrée w/ sides), 4 passed hor d'oeuvres, 1 late night snack, and open beer/wine/champagne.

Service fee and tax are extra. This fee also includes linens, set-up, clean-up, etc.

Our's is about $55 per person, including the service fees and everything. So for 225 people, that's about $12-13 grand.

These threads are always pretty much useless because location, style, and quality play such a part. I am outside of NYC. I can spend 10 bucks for a quick dinner and 7 bucks for a glass of wine at my local place or 150.00 plus 12 bucks a glass for a fancier place.

A wedding meal, with apps,a full bar, cocktail hour and plated four course dinner, in NJ, in a decent place, is going to cost a minimum of 130.00 plus tax and service.
