Catering - through your venue, or separate?

Having amazing food is a top priority for many planning couples. How did you make sure you'd be happy with the meal you'd be serving to your guests? We knew early on that we wanted a venue with its own catering. When we first began seeking out venues, we looked at a few that didn't have catering, and while we were by no means going for the cheapest wedding ever, we wanted to cut the corners where we could. From there on out, we looked primarily at reception halls that would provide the food. The one we ultimately settled on even covers the cake! They don't make it themselves, but they have a partnership with a local bakery.
