Cash/honeymoon fund on Registry? Yay or nay?

My FH and I have begun creating our wedding registry and are wondering weather or not to add a cash fund registry (which we would use towards purchasing a home and appliances/furniture) and a honeymoon registry (we're taking a 1-year anniversary trip rather than a honeymoon right after the wedding)....

My FH and I have begun creating our wedding registry and are wondering weather or not to add a cash fund registry (which we would use towards purchasing a home and appliances/furniture) and a honeymoon registry (we're taking a 1-year anniversary trip rather than a honeymoon right after the wedding).

However, I'm stuck on the fence about it because I've read many articles that you should add it, if you and your fiancee desire that more than the usual wedding registry with household items. But at the same time, I feel they are tacky and asking for it, even through a registry, sounds a little desperate and unclassy.

We haven't published the registries yet so we have time to decide. It's seems to be an up and coming trend but I have an inkling it's not one I should follow.

I like when posters say "they think it's tacky but I'm doing it. *insert terrible explanation as to why here*" like it makes the idea less tacky.

Lots of people would prefer getting cash to getting gifts, and that’s fine! There are a few ways to communicate this to your guests, but some may be considered more polite than others.

Just like printing your registry info on your invitation has fallen out of fashion (this is better shared by your wedding website or via word of mouth) it’s also considered rude to print that you’d like to receive cash on an invitation.

To communicate to your guests that you want cash, you could make a small registry with only a few items. People will get the hint!

Also, honey fund be aware that sites like Honeyfund take a portion of the cash gift.

Do not set up a cash fund or anything similar. It is tacky. I would be offended as a guest if you asked for money, and if you had a honey fund or something like that, I wouldn't go to your wedding.

Thanks everyone! Good ideas here and I appreciate the honest commentary. I made the cash fund registery "disappear".

I was just coming to say, I knew we wouldn't be able to go a day without a honeyfund, cash bar, self-catering, other bad idea post for a day... Smiley smile But at least you got your answer and changed your mind!

ETA: and I was just looking for some good memes!

I have a cash option on Zola that I say will go towards a honeymoon but also have registry things. My fiance and I have lived together 3+ years and don't need so much. I've had lots of friends do cash fund, a "hidden" cash fund (they had a picture of a house and you could "buy" things in it to help them save for one.

@Lindsey - the whole cash registry sounds nice and the sites such as Zola advertise it well and make it seem like the greatest thing to have on a registry. I have to remind myself not all trends are good to follow.

@Polly:yuck. Absolutely yuck. Those folks get a cheap physical gift from me. If they want to be rude to their guests then they get what they are entitled to.

You should never ask your guests to open their wallets at your wedding. End of story.

OP I'm glad that you came for honest feedback and took it to heart. @Meghan if you're going to do a tacky cash registry, they are not "donations." While you may be begging for money, your honeymoon is not a charitable cause.
