I went to a wedding on the 16th of October and didn't have time to put cash in the card since it was a Friday wedding so I wrote a check. They still haven't cashed it!!! Please everyone, deposit checks as soon as possible after your wedding!!!

Only been two weeks I would get a little annoyed if it went over a month. we keep about 5k in the checking account so a few hundred won't cause us to bounce a check.

It is only polite to deposit checks as soon as possible, but you do have to cut people a bit of slack with wedding checks. The couple needs time for a honeymoon, and then has to go through all the presents and make their lists for thank yous, and then they have to physically get to the bank. And chances are, they'll have trouble depositing checks until the woman changes her name on the account, and it's even worse if they don't already have a joint account! It can take WEEKS to get everything straight so the bank will accept a check, especially one written to Mr. AND Mrs. so-and-so, rather than Mr. OR Mrs. so-and-so. Since you can't control how people write out their checks, you just do the best you can with getting them deposited as soon as you can. Fortunately my husband and I already had a joint account so we could deposit checks by just saying "deposit only" on the back, they still hesitated a bit because the account had my maiden name on it but ultimately accepted the checks.

Ravenk, if you want to open a small pnc account if there are any in your area. if you get the vertial wallet there are no minimum balances and you can link another bank to it for outside transfers. I linked my husbands credit union to mine so he could deposit checks faster since the closest bank for him was well over an hour a way. He just had to sign the check, then I sign the check and schedule the transfer. Takes a total of about 3-5 days per transfer for the money to get there.

Great idea CelticChick! I also suggest that if people intend to have a joint account anyway once they are married, they consider opening one up before the wedding. Yes, it's one more place you have to inform of your name change, but it makes other things so much easier!

I was just recently added to his account so from what Celtic said, if you have a copy of the marriage certificate, it can (not saying it will, people know us pretty good also at our bank) make it easier? How do you get a copy of the ceritficate? Do you get one before your officient mails it?

I did only write the check to his name and I knew the couple wasn't going on a honeymoon so I'm just frustrated. I wouldn't be mad if they went on a two week honeymoon but why on earth can't they just take the check in?

My wedding will be on a Sunday and we're leaving for the honeymoon on Wednesday so I plan on going to the bank Monday morning and depositing all the checks right away.

Maybe they're waiting to be able to deposit them all at once? There are a ton of reasons they could be delayed, just deduct it from your account and don't worry about it

Tracy you don't get your marriage certificate until your officiant mails it in and the county mails it back to you, that's why if someone writes the check to your married name it can take a while until you can cash the check. We had a lot of problems with it, my bank is a stickler for rules, which I guess is a good thing for my protection. I never thought of this stuff until I got married!

I saw Laura already explained... so I agree, maybe they're just having some issues with other checks and wasn't able to get to yours yet.. maybe call them but in a nice way hint about maybe why they haven't cashed it..

I understand your frustration, but getting married, honeymoon or not, it is an exciting and forgetful time at the same time I'm sure...

Hang in there, maybe give it another week or so and then call them....

Are you kidding? Cashing the checks was one of the first things we did! lol The only thing that was sort of hard was people who wrote them out to me with my new last name. I couldn't cash those yet, because according to everything else I wasn't a Potter yet.

I agree with Shell, give it 2 more weeks. I would say that a month is ample amount of time to get the cards sorted out and the checks cashed. That first month is a very busy one and like some ladies said there are lots of things that have to be sorted out during that time. Just remember that you need to

Have that money in your account to cover the balance for when she does cash it.
