I plan on having a cash bar for our reception....I read in an article that was rude....should I just pay for the bar....I don't really want to because it's not in my budget

Just as a heads up, this is a really old thread. I even commented on it back in 2016. Cliff notes, it's against etiquette to make guests pay for something at an event you're hosting.

I have been to weddings where guest didn’t drink because they couldn’t afford to.. or women forget wallets, etc.
If venue allows buy liquor yourself or do beer & wine only.
I’m on a tight budget too. So I planned for a year away so I can factor in all that. So I’ll pay. Some places also allow a small budget. Then if you hit what you paid they inform you before it happens. You can then close bar or add more to pay. But be ready to pay immediately.See what your options are. It very disappointing to guests to come and not drink if they enjoy that. However it can be totally eliminated. Don’t allow a bar in at all. Serve tea, soda & water. Then no questions asked.
