Caricature Artist can ONLY do 8-10 guest per hr, How can we control the 150 guest rushing the artist table?

Lisa , on June 28, 2009 at 11:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

We hired a Caricature Artist for our wedding. The artist will only be at the wedding for 3 hours. He can only do 8-10 per hour. So that is about 24-30 guest during that 3 hour time. Should put a sticker on the program or something on a chair that entitle guest to a caricature? Please give me some ideas to control the guest from rushing the artist table.

Perhaps have the guests take numbers and the dj can announce the number to be served when he is done with each one.

Can you afford a 2nd artist?? Think how disappointing it would be for the other 4/5 of your guests that will see what they are missing out on. I thinkit's a really fun idea, but if they cannot accomodate a bigger part of your guests and you can't afford to add more I personally would cut that out.... Sorry I know thats not what you asked for but I'm just imagining the disappointment of the 120 guests not getting it done.... Maybe do it for your rehearsal dinner????

I agree with the previous post. If I were one of the 120 people who didn't get one, I'd be kind of upset, since it was something available to all guests. I would probably just do that for the rehearsal dinner. I know that's not the answer you wanted, but it's true. I would be disappointed.

I have to agree with the 2 above posters. If its something that all guests cant have then I would do away with it.

We had the exact same delima, but we had 75 guests. I know this sounds weird, but we didn't do anything. We had him start drawing during the hors d'oeuvre hour and continue through the meal. It worked out fine for us. He had tried to warn us to stop ppl from rushing him to have a number system or something. We opted not to (more out of laziness...lol). We figured some would want it and others wouldn't...we were right. There was never a line and everyone that wanted one, got one. Others thought you had to pay for it so they didn't do it (which is sad and a little weird that they thought we would make them pay...lol).

We got rave reviews and everyone loved walking around laughing at each others photos. He MADE the reception! My advice would be to have a private session with him b4 ur reception so you & hubby can get yours done and have it posted at the reception for all to see. Other than that, its up to you as to your methodoligy. I say hire a 2nd guy if u r paranoid. GL!

Is this a per person, or can he do a whole family mom dad and kids in one sitting?? Would you be able to take polaroids of the rest of the people who didn't get a chance to get one then have the artist make one from that and send them to your guests, it would most likely cost extra and you could compare that too hiring a second artist and maybe have them come during cocktails?? The ones I see when I go on holidays dont take very long I think, but 8-10 in an hour is still quite a few.,..

Maybe you could do some kind of "raffle"... during the start of when you have him he can do characters of your parents or something and at that time anyone that would like a character can write their name on a piece of paper and put them in a bowl. Every time he finishes one set of people you can draw a name for the next character. That way its kind of like a raffle and only the people that are interested in it will have a chance of getting one.

you should have a copy machine or at least someone to take a picture of each character so that you can have a copy of them for your scrapbook =)

Do it for your dinner rehearsal and then place them around the entrance so guest will know how fun your reception will be.

Or issue out a raffle ticket and allow the DJ to announce the number.

Or do not worry over it, one of the poster was correct some will opt not to have it but because you have a larger group you may want to make is as organized as possible.

Get with your wedding planner and see what they come up with.

I like the idea. Very unique and creative. clearly not everyone will get one.

I suggest setting it up like a drawing or door price, similar to what another poster suggested. Maybe toss all the names in bowl. This could be done well ahead of time. If someone can't make it or someone has gone after a couple of hours, they just deraw another name.

If everyone gets an equal chance, no one will feel bad if they don't "win".

Bride and Groom should always be the first winners.
