Card box!?

SarahKay, on June 19, 2017 at 9:49 PM

So I didn't put much thought into needing a card box until my step mom brought it up recently. So I need some inspiration! Show me your DIY or bought card boxes Also, does it have to be locked? I've seen both, not sure which way I should go. Thanks ladies!

My Dad made the box, my mom painted it, and I purchased the "cards" sticker. So it was more my parents DIY than mine.

We are doing a tiered gift box type like this one.

Hadn't thought about access or a lock yet, maybe we will make it out of wood instead...

I like the birdcages. I thought about that but am a little worried about people being able to just pull cards out through the sides.

@Renee- Thanks for the heads up! My card box will be up in the reception and nobody will be putting anything in it until after the reception starts. The room will be full of people. Are most people putting theirs out at the ceremony?

I, unfortunately, have an untrustworthy brother so not being able to reach in to it easily is necessary. This is my DIY, the lids will be glued on. Unfortunately that means it will probably be destroyed when I have to get the cards out but it's not like I could reuse it for anything anyways. Cost about ~$40 to make

Edit: probably closer to $35 with leftover materials to use for other projects

I got ours for $20 at HomeGoods this weekend. We just walked through looking for ideas and they had tons of options: lanterns, boxes, greenhouses. We settled on something that appears to be a candle display box but will work perfectly.

Ours doesn't have a lock. You have to take a short shuttle to get to our venue so the only people who could steal it would be hotel workers or guests.

My diy. It was super easy. It doesn't show well in the photo, but it's sprayed with gold glitter spray.

Mine is not with me or I would send a picture! I bought a very large shadow box, placed a background in the back with our names and date and then hot glued envelopes on a clothes pin. Then I have a wood piece in front that says cards. Probably cost me under 30 and felt so nice to get a diy done!

I'm having a touch of vintage in my wedding. So I have a standard white satin-lined card box from the store Pat Catan's, but it will be sitting inside an open vintage suitcase to dress it up! Maybe with some flowers interspersed.

Nothing fancy but I plan to use a box that's been passed down from my oldest sibling. We have 5 siblings total and all of us (besides me, of course) used that same box and it's my turn to finally use it now!

This is ours found it at big lots I will be attaching some photos and a sash that says cards. My venue is not open to the public and I am not worried about anyone stealing it so there is no lock on ours.

Mine is going to be the smaller of two vintage suitcases that I bought on Etsy dressed with with a sign and some lace -- no lock, unfortunately, but I didn't even realize that was a thing until I spent too much money. Smiley sad

I've made three "cake" card boxes for family and friends. Used coupons from Joanns to purchase the mache boxes, covered with scrapbook paper, ribbon, and faux pearls. Paper flowers cascade down the side (see my Avatar). The colors were fun to switch up to match the wedding colors. This was green, black, and white. One was blue and yellow, the other lime green and crimson. Cards were dropped into slot at the top and fell to the bottom, which was double-side taped. To the quick "opportunity" pick-pocket, it appeared glued shut. But the bride and groom were able to open gently and with a little bit of time without damaging their cake!

It's not quite finished yet, but so far I'm happy with it.
