Can’t sew bra cups into wedding dress?

Rachel , on February 4, 2019 at 6:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
Hi all,
So let me start by saying I’m a 32G bra size. My dress is gorgeous but has an open back underneath a sheer layer of beading. Everyone at the bridal salon told me I’d be able to have cups sewn in and it would be fine. At my first fitting, my dress maker told me she wouldn’t sew bra cups into my dress because it wouldn’t give me any support. She instead told me to go find a low back bustier. So I found the lowest back bustier in my size/sister size (made by Le Mystere) and go to my second fitting. She tells me it still isn’t low enough now in the cups/armpit area. So I immediately start to cry and ask her what I can do. She said that I need to try one of the adhesive backless bras (specifically, Nordstrom). I told her that I’ve previously tried these kinds of bras but they don’t offer enough support for me. She told me how I must’ve just been putting them on wrong. Sigh. So I order one. Try it multiple ways and surprise, surprise. It doesn’t hold me up. I’m dreading my third fitting in a few weeks because I don’t know what could possibly be done. She insisted I couldn’t have cups sewn into my dress. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Do you have a picture of your dress? I’m a 32G as well and had cups sewn in with no issues.

Yep! It’s the Jacinda gown from BHLDN.

FYI: the whiter band in the back photo is my regular strapless bra, not the low back one I got

Okay I see. Yeah sewing in cups probably wouldn’t keep them as lifted as you want. My dress was strapless so I didn’t have to worry about that. Honestly for low back things I duct tape my boobs up. I saw Kim Kardashian do it once and I swear by it now haha.

My first wedding dress I wore a corset/bustier and my seamstress sewed down the sides of the corset at the top so it couldn't be seen under my dress. There were enough hook and eyes at the middle/bottom to hold it into place. I wonder if that would work for you?

Im a 32I so I feel your pain!

I’m heavy chested too and I opted out of any strapless and low back dresses because of this issue here. Last resort is to tape your breasts down.

Go to a different seamstress!!! I personally like a lot of support and am not the type of person to ever go without a bra. My seamstress found a way to cut and sew in a bra of my choosing. She was veryyyy creative in how she did it. Don't settle for something you aren't comfortable with! I'm sure another seamstress will be able to make it work for you!

Thanks all! I think I have a few options I’m going to try: the tape (hopefully that works!) and I might also ask the seamstress if it’s possible to either sew cups in or cup my low back bra on the top of the cups/sides. The Le Mystere one I have would work except for the top of the cups showing by my arms/armpits. Is it possible to cut a bra down?

Maybe get a second opinion from a different seamstress.
