Cane for groom???

Kirrah, on December 6, 2015 at 2:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

So my FH is pretty set on the idea he wants a cane and a top hat. Iv said no to the top hat idea. But he is pretty insistent on the cane idea, and im very unsure, its our wedding and he has been so involved every step of the way. Do i let him have the cane or dont i. Thanks

What? Why? I don't get it. My answer would definitely be no.

I have already said no to the top hat, so I feel kinda bad saying no to the cane but omg I'd die if he had one on the day, we just seem to be going in circles :/

Only if he'll also accessorize with a monocle, a la Monopoly man.

What's the theme of your wedding? If it's steam punk or even Victorian, I could totally see a top hat and cane. My DH (we are legally married) wants to come into the ceremony to Real American. It's a Hulk Hogan thing... He thought I'd tell him no, and I'd like to, but I know he loves wrestling and this is his wedding too. If you reeeeeeally don't want him to carry the cane, ask him if he's sure he wants to carry it around all day and night. Or agree to the cane, but to leave it out of the family photos or first look photos.

We don't really have a theme, but if I was to pick one, its a eleigent wedding in a winery/homestead. So I don't see the fit with the cane, oh Alexis that's an awesome idea, keeping it out of certain photos and such. Missgeek I totally agree, he can't even come up with a reason why, he just "wants too" I feel like it will just be in my way all day and I can't be bothered with it all. Thanks guys your all so helpful Smiley smile

Is this the one thing he really wants for the wedding? Can you explain WHY you are so aganist it? I don't see the problem but maybe explain to him that if wants a cane and top hat -

he'll need to wear a REALLY formal suit.

Please keep in mind it IS his wedding and day as well. Maybe compromise and say he can bring it into the reception and a few photos but not the ceremony.

I would reccomend making him carry a cane around for a week now and if he makes it through the WHOLE week...let him have it. He might find it to be super annoying.

Sorry if this is jarbled...phone app is not easy to see what I've already typed.

It's outdated, yes. But if it makes him happy, I don't know why you wouldn't let him. It's his wedding, too. You have to compromise, and sometimes that means a detail you might not be super excited about, especially if it's something your FH really wants and/or has a strong opinion about.

"I feel like it will just be in my way all day and I can't be bothered with it all". I see a lot lot of "I" and no "him". It's his wedding, too. I agree with the suggestion of having him carry one around, even for a day, to see how much trouble it is or isn't. In the end, you both need to be happy, but I would rethink the "adamantly" telling him no. Marriage is about compromise and not always getting it 100% your way.

Outdated, weird, borderline insulting, and confusing to the guests, many of whom will be thinking, "Gee, what happened to Ralph?".

I've done several weddings with long topcoats, ascots, spats, etc, and personally, I think it looks self conscious and affected.

And no top hat for the ceremony. He's not Fred Astaire.

If I saw a groom using a cane I would assume he's injured or handicapped. Or going to bust out into a tap dancing number.

I think he probably wants it because he THINKS it looks cool but tell him it looks silly and like someone else said outdated. It's one of those things where he'll be looking at your pics 5 years from now saying why the heck did you let me wear/use that?

Usually I'm all for letting the groom get his way, it is his wedding too. But I find this offensive. I don't understand why an able-bodied person would want to use a cane. A cane is not an accessory.

Why not compromise with allowing a getting ready pic with a cane and a top hat with his boys which will then immediately be removed for all further pictures/wedding activities lol.

To me that sounds like he is trying to look like a "pimp" which is definitely not wedding appropriate. Guests may even think he hurt himself and wonder what happened that he's using a cane.

Let him get a couple photos with his "props" with the boys. Put them away for the rest of the day and never order those photos.
