Cancun wedding suggestion?

Nicole, on April 3, 2019 at 7:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Looking at Cancun wedding destinations. We liked Solaris resorts due to being budget friendly. Trip advisor had decent reviews, anyone been there or have another suggestion?

I had a friend get married at Secrets. I'm not sure how pricey it was but it was beautiful! I think it has great reviews too!

I looked at couple resorts. We are doing our DW in Cancún as well and there was so much research done! Comparing wedding packages and hotel prices and then the actual hotel itself... my top 3 were.. 1. Hyatt Ziva (love it!!! I will have to go there one day) 2. Finest Playa Mujeres and 3. Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula... Ultimately I went with option 2 to stay in budget due to my guest count going up by 20ppl (parents smh)... otherwise I’d had gone with #1 with my 30 original guests. #3 was fine except I didn’t like their customer service when I asked followed up questions about the reception (they do it at one of their restaurants semi private.. they have a private option but they never gave me the price to upgrade to that).
There were so many others I loved but they’re adults only and we’d be having 2 children in the group.. anyways any questions ask away...

I am in your boat Wendy! Parents added some extras and I want to keep budget friendly for guests. I have a friend that frequents Now Jade, Riviera Maya. I liked that their wedding information booklet was VERY informative, and I won't be emailing the resort 100 times back and forth being transferred to different people as I had with other resorts. I will check Finest Playa Mujeres as well.

We have a few kids going as well, otherwise I do prefer adults only. Plan is to spend 4 days at the resort with friends and family then head to an adults only for a few days, just the 2 of us Smiley smile

Finest Playa Mujeres looks great as well! I didn't see cost per guest after the included 20 ppl, do you know what that is?

Also, how does the room blocking work? Are you using a travel agent? I suspect most of my guests will just prefer to use expedia and book on their own.

We wanted to do the same but Finest Playa Mujeres has an adult section only and so we booked our room there with a swim up pool so we don’t even have to come out of our rooms if we don’t want to lol.. Riu’s Customer service was horrible. I had to email someone they told me to get a question answered instead of them forwarding my questions or finding an answer. And their wedding packages weren’t as good and their reception at one of their restaurants wasn’t doing it for me... it was the cheapest option out of my 3... the guest price after the 20 for guest staying at the resort is $45 and $25 for 4-12yrs old. They also require 90% of the guest to stay there with a minimum of 3 nights. We decided to use a travel agent. 3 yrs ago I went to a wedding and the couple had a travel agent and we booked our room through them and they answered all of our questions and set up our transfers and I price matched and it was cheaper through them.. it was very smooth so I wanted the same for my guests.. they can ask the travel agent all the questions instead of them asking me a million.. the room blocks, they gave me 2 options. #1 I had to book a number of room and a variety in case my guests want to upgrade, I had to know how many days for each type of room, and I had to pay a deposit and ultimately the balance and as guests booked their room I would get my money back. We would get a lot of free amenities with this one.. #2 was “book your way”, where the guest can book whenever they want to up to a certain date. We still got some free stuff with this one.. this was easier for us that way we don’t have to deal with guessing and possibly not getting things right... I know you can do room blocks with the hotel directly but I don’t know their requirements...

Hi! We are getting married at the Now Sapphire in Riviera Maya in 2 weeks. We fly into Cancun and it's only a 15 minute shuttle from the airport. We had friends that honeymooned there and another set of friends that got married there a few months ago. Nothing but rave reviews. We are so excited.

Congrats! Was the Now Sapphire easy to work with?

I read there is a 15% tax and 16% service fee or something, which seemed high, but if its a nice place and if they are easy to work with it would be worth it.
