Cancelled wedding after save the dates AND eloped :P

Brooke, on January 21, 2013 at 4:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

So wedding planning basically sucked. The stress was too much and I said F IT, cancelled all the vendors (lost $5000 in deposits), hired an officient off Craigslist, then met them at my local Starbucks, signed the papers, now we're married. Done.

Problem - Save the Dates have been sent. I e-mailed all my friends and family to let them know, but his side is sorta flipping out about how to communiate this news with their side.

Suggestions?

You should sent out another save the date style card saying that you eloped. Check google for some fun wording like "we just couldn't wait, we eloped" or something like that. Can you have a casual backyard type party to celebrate with your family so they dont feel left out and angry? Other than that it really is your choice. But I think its respectful to send out formal announcements saying you got married.

And I def dont think that making the family relay the info themselves is the route to go.

You should send out an announcement to everyone you sent a save the date to. I like Katie's idea of "we just couldn't wait, we eloped" and in the announcement you could mention having a reception of sorts later.

In agreement with everyone else. Send out a funny postcard (ordered off Vista Print or something) saying that you two eloped and are hosting a casual backyard reception. That’s what I would do anyway!

You're probably right. I 100% don't want a celebration or gathering. But it's probably necessary to stay in good graces with the in laws.

Ouch $5000 in just deposits.. I must be a cheap-o because my wedding, reception and honeymoon is only around $4500. But I too would love to elope.. But me and everyone else would lose deposits that have been paid and I couldnt do that to them.

Definitely send out an announce letting everyone know you eloped. Also, you can still hold a reception on your original wedding day. How about:

    We couldn't wait.

    So we changed the date.

    Now we want to celebrate!

    Oh...ForeverMyLove...I love that idea.

We had something come up, so I was looking for suggestions. I love the idea of sending out an announcement and inviting them to a more casual reception/party on the actual wedding day.

How about wedding websites? How would you suggest updating that? and should I wait until after the wedding? Do I delete the registry? Sorry, I have a lot of questions because things have changed.

We are doing a very intimate ceremony on a friends dock (who is also marrying us) with my kids and mother and her best friend (who is her best man) and cousin who lives with us.

Whatever you send, pls don't try to make it rhyme. It's not cute; it's embarrassing.
