Can you negotiate wedding dress prices?

Pau Max, on August 2, 2019 at 10:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hello brides!

Happy summer and happy planning!

Today I went to my first wedding dress appointment and I went through all kind of emotions trying on dresses.

I had done my research and the bridal salon I went to had the majority of the dresses I was looking for, and really loved one of them. The girl that helped me was truly helpful and knew what I liked and what I didn’t. so I asked her for more suggestions.
She brought me a dress that was quite beautiful and flattering so of course it quickly became one of my two favorites. The dress, however, is about $600 more than my “comfortable budget” and about $1k more than the first dress I liked.
Of course, I am a little bummed. The store offered 10% discount which brings the price down by $300.

I am torn and wondering if a bride can negotiate the price.

Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to WW!

It would really depend on the bridal salon. I think most stores have a set price and that's pretty much set in stone unless there's promos/sales going on. I don't think it hurts to ask, though!

You can’t negotiate dress prices just like you can’t negotiate the price of clothing at any other retail store. You can ask if they’re having a sale anytime soon, or get the designer and name of the gown and call other shops in your area to compare prices. Prices aren’t always the same at every shop.

I didn’t think so either. I’m just slightly bummed that I was introduced to a dress that’s out of my budget and that they offered a 10% after because it wasn’t one I chose.

No, unfortunately you can't. Most, if not all, bridal stores have their prices set at the lowest price they are allowed by the designer. Sometimes they'll have trunk shows or discounts to get people in the store! You just have to keep an eye out.

I’ve only seen 10% during a trunk show or for some gowns if purchased off the rack. You might get more during a discontinued sample sale but it’s not worth hoping that dress will be around and last in decent shape. I say get that dress for 10% off.

10% seems pretty nice though for the discount offer

I don’t believe so, the 10% discount is nice of them! When I went shopping my consultant said “now if you would like a discount you should ask me for 10% off since you plan on paying in full. But you need to ask” so my mom did and she said of course! So 10% seems like the most generous discount you’ll get just about anywhere, since no other place offered us this

I wish I could lol. I was fortunate enough to save $50 at David's Bridal.
