Can I wear my wedding gown for my vow renewal?

Katharine212, on November 13, 2015 at 3:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

My husband and I got married on Oct 17 and we had a small wedding. I planned it in only a month and a half because his father is not doing too well and we didn't think he would make it until next year. We wanted him to be there to see us get married, and our ceremony only had about 15 people, while our reception had about 100 (mostly family). We originally wanted a destination wedding, but opted to do this quickly for his dad. My question is, can I wear my wedding gown that I wore this year for next year? We are still doing a destination "wedding" like we wanted to, albeit a vow renewal on the same date in 2016. I don't plan on wearing my veil or anything, but I really like my dress and I hate to only wear it once and then put it away forever.

I plan on wearing my dress to watch tv at some point because I am so in love with it!! A vow renewal is a MUCH better reason!

I would totally wear mine again for a vow renewal. Great idea.

So sorry to hear his dad isn't doing well. It's great you were able to have a ceremony with him there.

Thank you guys! I was reading other reviews online and people were saying "no, don't do it. wear something else" and I would absolutely hate to pick out another dress that will just sit in my closet! We were hoping to have all the bells and whistles that we didn't get to have with this one. I appreciate it! Smiley smile

You can absolutely wear it again, and I think it's smart to do so, espeically since you love it so much. That said, if you want to switch up your look a little, you could have some fun trying different accessories this time around--add a new sash, try another style of earrings, etc.

Definitely wear it again! If my FH and I ever do a vow renewal, I plan on wearing my wedding dress again.

Destination Weddings are so much fun! Where are you guys headed? If you're going out of the country to an all-inclusive, I would definitely ask if they have someone to steam your wedding attire because it can get a little wrinkled through travel!

We're going to Riviera Maya in Mexico. It was the original plan and I am working with a travel agent to help us through this! After planning this wedding by myself in crunch time, I'm not about to plan another one - LOL! The ones we are looking at have the ability to steam it, but my husband and I will be there at least 3 days prior so it would be hung up and pressed in time. I just have to get my butt in gear and send it to the cleaners to have it cleaned and fixed (my MOH accidentally stepped on the train and there's just a little tear, but it's no big deal) so that they can preserve it and send it back to me.

@Katharine212 The Riviera Maya is gorgeous! I love it there - if we were having a DW that's where we would be going. I definitely think a travel agent will be very helpful! You should definitely get a break after planning a wedding so quickly Smiley smile

Maybe you should ask everyone who thinks that if you got married on a different day that this doesn't count as a wedding... because they seem to think not...

But I think you should rock it!
