Can I wear my bridesmaid dress to another wedding?

AmyLeigh, on April 28, 2009 at 11:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Alright, so with the cost of having my own wedding, my sister's wedding, and the wedding of my fiance's good friend, all in the next few months, I have to ask: can I wear my bridesmaid dress (from my sister's wedding) to my fiance's friend's wedding? My sister is in Illinois and my fiance's friend's wedding is in California, so no none of the guests would know.

I am mostly concerned about style. This is a small (less than 30 people), early evening, So Cal beach wedding, with a very expensive dinner to follow. There are no bridesmaids. My dress is David's Bridal style 89514 in lapis (dark purple). Is it cocktail-y enough to pull off as a wedding guest? Maybe with a waist sash or a casual wrap? I'm concerned that the fake-satin unadorned dress just screams bridesmaid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We'd like to buy everyone nice gifts but otherwise need to cuts costs as much as possible.

I couldn't pull up that style number, using that number doesn't render any results. However, I think you are totally safe with your idea. Smiley smile

Oh yeah, that's a totally okay cocktail dress, it doesn't scream bridesmaid dress to me at all. I think you are completely safe wearing it again. Smiley smile

I certainly wouldn't go nuts if someone (not a bridesmaid) wore that to my wedding.

Absolutely! it's great when you're able to get another use out of a bridesmaid dress. Since the crowd is different, there's nothing to worry about.

That should work beautifully with just a wrap and some jewelry. I wouldn't put a sash on it. Good luck and have fun!

The dress is beautiful! I agree with the previous post, a wrap and some jewellery and it would look great! Not bridesmaid-sy at all!

    Amy,

I think that dress would work perfect! It's perfect for a California wedding. And since its darker it passes for more formal. When i picked my Bridesmaids dresses I tried to find something they would get use out of so the dress and money aren't wasted.

    Totally go for it!!

I would try to find a nice big sparkly broach or something to add some detial around the waist, or a sash if you can find one that dosen't look goofy with the dress, but it wouldn't take much to make it pass as a cocktail dress.

I made my girls pick out a dress tyle that everyone could re-ware too. I couldn't stand the thought that they would spend that much money and never wear it again.

How fortunate you will be able to get good use from the dress. It's lovely. I also wouldn't hesitate to sell it when you are done. Bridesmaids underestimate the value of their dress to other maids trying to keep their costs down.

Thank you guys for all your responses! Selling isn't a bad idea either, I had never considered that!

That dress is perfect for a wedding!

I think it's great that you can wear a bridesmaids dress again. I purposely chose a short dress for my bridesmaids so they can wear it again. The color is gorgeous too!

I'm actually in the same situation... I have two other weddings to attend this summer too! I'm a bridesmaid in one... It's just too bad the same people will be at both weddings so I can't wear the dress over! =[
