Can a bride be too muscular?

Allison, on May 17, 2012 at 2:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So, I'm no stranger to the gym, but lately I've been doing a lot more weight lifting than usual in order to make sure my arms are toned (strapless wedding dress). Today I was taking a Bollywood dance class, and I noticed that my shoulders and upper back muscles are really pronounced! At what point does it stop looking sexy and feminine and start looking like Arnold back in his "good years"? Think I should lay off the weights for a while?

I guess it just depends on what you feel since its your body. Personally I think muscles are sexy! You could always try adding some yoga and such in to the mix to help the muscles appear longer.

@ Allison - I don't think you have too much to worry about. Honestly, most women, no matter how much they work out, cannot pack on "Arnold muscles", NATURALLY that is. Hell, Arnold didn't even put all of his on naturally! Our bodies just aren't designed for that Smiley smile. The muscle you are putting on working out is most likely lean. If you love your body with definition and your FH does too, then show off your fitness! Women with muscles are just as beautiful as women without!

Fit is the new sexy Smiley winking I teach Pole Dancing and Flirty Girl Fitness and actually get women who come in looking to muscle up for their upcoming weddings! And unless you're bench pressing 100 lbs a couple hours a day, you won't bulk up - it takes a lot of time to get that ''pronounced'' haha. Just work on your cardio a little more than the weights if you're really worried about it. You'll look great either way!

Us ladies sure are funny creatures....there are those of us worried about "back-fat", those worried about "too much muscle" and the few and far between "too skinny"....I personally think that We are ALL Beautiful!!!!

That being said, I think I look like "a little man" dressing in drag in pictures I took of myself in my dress lol

Now4ever, I feel that way when I wear skirts sometimes, but just because I think my legs are too muscular (long distance runner). But, I always get compliments on how great my legs look...

We're always way more critical of ourselves than others are!

Be proud of who you are and proud of the muscle you have. You've worked hard for it! I have really muscular arms as well and my FI once told me I had "man arms" and I told him he was just jealous because I have more muscle than he does Smiley smile Haha.

LOL Julean that pic is rather disturbing!!

I use to be an athlete, ran track for over 15 years, and started lifting weights in college. I don't think I ever looked "manish" and I could squat over 400 lbs and bench close to 300 lbs. back in the day. Every woman's body will look different as a result of lifting, it just depends on you natural build. It will also depend on how you are lifting (reps vs. weight, etc... sorry I'm a coach) that will make you more bulky or just toned.

My opinion may be biased because I was an athlete, but i think a little bit of muscle is sexy on a woman.

Tara L: I mostly lift 2 or 3 days a week when I don't do much cardio, but I always warm up before weight lifting on the treadmill or something similar for 15 - 30 minutes.

Even though I'm overweight, I'm actually noticing hard, well defined muscles for the first time in my life. And I'm not complaining at all!
