Calling all first-time brides over 30

About to be Mrs. Nic, on November 26, 2013 at 9:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 50

So I know I am totally doing this to myself, but there are some traditions that I feel like I don't want to take a part in because I'm not super young getting married right out of college or whatever. Example: I don't want to wear a blusher because I'm worried everyone will be like "who the hell does she think she is fooling? She isn't a blushing bride...she's 32 and she's clearly been around the block more than a few times." I also don't want to do a bouquet or garter toss because 75% of my friends are married or engaged, and I feel like I am just too old for it. Plus any friends I have that are single are super insecure about it, and I don't want to "single" them out (pun intended). Again, I know I am likely doing this to myself...but can anyone relate?

Same here. I hate the garter toss just for that reason. I was always the single one.

38 here. I didn't do any of those either. I'm sure no one really missed it.

Im in agreement- the garter seems really stupid to me, especially in front of people? really? I cant do that. I guess its the last bastion of the medieval bedding ceremony?

OK, good. A couple of my friends have told me I'm obsessing about my age and that I should do whatever I want to. But at the end of the day, there are just a couple of things I feel like I might look silly doing (plus - I don't want to break a hip!)

No one will notice or miss it. Everyone will be enjoying the wedding and reception. DH was 49 and it was his first marriage, my second. I wore a garter and then we did a private removal just for a couple of photos.

Do only what you are comfortable with and believe me when I say, if you are happy everyone around you will be too.

Yes! I'm 35 - and most of my girlfriends invited to the wedding are coming with their husbands, so there will be no bouquet toss. FH, however, wants to do the garter toss. I'm letting him.

I like the garter and bouquet toss but I also run into the issue where most of my friends are married now. I'm pretty much the last holdout lol. So I'm considering still doing these things but involving everyone, single or married. We have a good group who would be okay with that.

I have a tiered blusher. I'm getting away with it because I look 25 hahaha.

I will be 32 on my wedding day, and I am not doing the Garter or the Bouquet Toss. I don't know that it has anything to do with my age, I have never really liked those traditions. I have to admit though, if I had shoes like yours, JC, I would definitely be finding a way to show them off.

Aaaaaand wanna know another thing I feel like I can't do that I would have been OK with if I was 22??

....wear shoes with that high of a heel, JC!!! I definitely would break my hip!!! Those shoes are super cute, but I would fall flat on my ass. I wore shoes like that when I was whoring around the bars in college, but I could never now. Props, lady!

I speak out of jealousy, please know. My FH is only a couple inches taller than me. The shoes are wicked cute, and I can't wait to see pics of how the peacock theme comes together!

I'm not doing any of the stuff you mentioned. FH thinks he's too old to dance with his mom. I think I'm too old to have a wedding party (and don't really want one anyway). He's almost 37, I'm 38.

I was 56 on my wedding day. It was my second wedding, but NotFroofy's first, and she was 41. I actually had a blusher, but forgot to put it over my face on the day. We had no interest in doing the bouquet or garter toss.

I'll be 62 on my wedding day! I know that sounds REALLY old, but most of my best GFs are in their 30s. I'm not doing bouquet or garter toss just because I think it wastes time! Haha

PS. My FH is only 42, so ya, I'm pretty young. I can do anything you cuties can do except have more babies. Thank god!!!

Well i'm exactly 30 right now but will be 31 by the time the wedding comes around. The only thing I don't want to do is a typical bachelorette party. I've never been that type of girl to begin with (wearing penis paraphernalia and sashes and whatnot while drinking excessively and being the center of attention) and am certainly not now.

I'd prefer not to do the garter/bouquet toss but everyone else wants it to happen so I guess it's happening.

Many of my brides are "older" (ha ha ha) and almost none of them do blushers. Very few garters, very few bouquet tosses either. Do what you want!
