Cake vs. Cupcakes

Victoria, on January 20, 2017 at 6:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

I'm having a wedding with 150 people or less. And I want to know if it's better to do cupcakes or cake thoughts????

Totally up to you. Some people think cupcakes look too much like children's birthday party fare. We'll probably do cupcakes and a small cake to cut.

I feel like people have widely varying opinions on this. I like both, but would prefer cake at a wedding because I think it's easier to eat.

I'm having about the same amount of guests and I've chosen cupcakes. I think it'll be easier if people just come up and get their own without someone having to cut the cake

I have wedding of 65. I chose cupcakes. That way, it's smaller amounts, more flavors to choose from, and can have a batch made for my friends/family with dietary needs. My caterer is not charging extra for 3 flavors and 2 in special batch. We looked at cakes, and for a sheet cake to serve, and small tier cake, would have cost me more then cupcakes. Not to mention the cake cutting fee.

I mean as a guest, I would eat either or both lol.

H and I did cake because we liked the look better though.

ETA: And cake cutting was free through our caterer.

We considered both, as we invited around 235. Partially as the original bakery we picked had better cupcake flavors and we liked having variety.

Now that we changed bakeries - we found a place that has AMAZING cake, and we're just having cake. I make cupcakes for everyone all the time - but that is usually for birthday parties - and cake feels more wedding like to me.

Would the cupcakes be 2 dry? My friend was concerned about that. Thoughts on dryness?

We were thinking of going cupcakes, but have decided to do something a little different! We are going to have a small cake to cut, and a dessert bar! (Mini pies, cheesecake, macaroons, etc!) deciding on whether or not to also have cake. Dessert is dessert and people will love it either way!

@Jen - so you're planning to cut cake for you and FS only? That's not actually very polite to do - if you're going to have a cake to cut - you should have it available for your guests too

I definitely see the appeal of doing the cake for the photos and because it feels wedding-y, but I posted a similar topic here a while ago, and it sounded like guests don't care if it's cake or cupcakes. I'd do whatever was less expensive, which is often cupcakes due to cake cutting fees.

We are doing gourmet cupcakes. We aren't big on sweets but discovered an amazing cupcake bakery in our area. We wanted to be different. Some people we know have done cake, one did pie, we are going with cupcakes. It is personal choice. Call around try a few tasting. Go with what you want.

I originally thought cupcakes, but cake was roughly the same price, and mom hates the cake idea, so we're doing cake.

You can make each tier a different flavor if you want- variety shouldn't be a concern.

We loved the idea of cupcakes but ended up feeling like they were too expensive if that was all we got so we're doing some of both

I chose cupcakes because the venue doesn't cut cake and I'm definitely not making someone do it.

ETA: and a small cake for us to cut.
