Hi All!

I've scheduled a cake tasting for March 2nd with a bakery that I really like. However, I was a little turned off when I was told that the tasting will be done with cupcakes. They don't request any flavors/fillings in advance. They'll just put the cupcake together during the tasting.

The bakery that is contracted through our venue makes 3 mini cakes with cake/filling/frosting of our choice and allows us to take the cakes home to try. I had a cake from this bakery before and didn't like it at all. However, the cake that was served during our couples tasting was delicious! My fiance plan to try them out next month.

For those of you who already had your tasting, were you able to try a cake? Or did your bakery also use cupcakes? How was your cake tasting experience?

I was just wondering if having cupcakes during a cake tasting is the norm or not.

Thanks!

I wouldn't ever be wanting to purchase a CAKE and they make me try cupcakes. Cupcakes and cake is completely different. They aren't the same in texture that's for sure and nor taste for the most part. A lot of bakeries do group tastings to afford making a full cake. But usually it's just little pieces of cake not saying it has to be a whole layered slice but yeah. Idk it's up to you. If I am aiming for cake I'd aim for a bakery that samples cake. The one I have set up does the group tasting method. The other I am not sure yet.

I didn't even have full cupcakes at my tasting lol just literal bite-sized pieces of cake with the different fillings and frostings.

Ugh I hit reply too soon!
We're trying to see if any of the bakeries can come close to copying a cake we really enjoy from The Cheesecake Factory (it's basically a chocolate fudge cake). If not, we'll just purchase it directly from a local restaurant.
I explained this to the bakery and the simply said, ok we'll do a chocolate cupcake with fudge on the top. That isn't the same smh. Not to me at least.
So we'll see how this goes!

Ooooo that sounds amazing! Yes, best of luck to you! If you don't find a baker it sounds awesome to order it from Cheesecake factory. Love that place!

    Thank you!
CF never fails! That's my fiance and I go to date night restaurant. Our plan right now is to order the cake from Cheesecake Factory to have and share with our wedding party/immediate family. The cake will be held in a separate room to not offend anyone.
Our main cake will be a little more simple since our guests may not like chocolate on chocolate on chocolate lol.

Or tasting was with little slices of cake rather than a mini cake or cupcake and the samples were made by request. So we went in, they gave us a menu of cake types and filling options and we filled out a form with all the combinations we wanted to try. There was no limit to how many combinations you could request. They then made all the sample slices and brought them out for us to try. The sample slices were large enough for the 4 of us that were there to be able to each have 2-3 bites so not a ton of cake but enough to try and compare flavors.

You're welcome! Yes, we narrowed it down to our favorites for the dessert table but we still have to decide our cake flavors.
No worries! We all have expectations. It sounds like it'll be delicious so that's awesome!
