Hey guys.
Has anyone did cupcakes rather than a wedding. A lot of bakery’s I’ve been to said they are seeing more and more people doing cupcakes instead of the traditional wedding cake. If you have done cupcakes instead of cake i would love your opinion about it, whether you wish you would have gone with the traditional wedding cake or if you are happy with what you picked. If you didn’t do cupcakes and did a traditional cake i want your opinion too. How much cake went to wasted things like that!

We did cupcakes for ours and a cake for us to cut. Minimal left over and everyone loved them. I'm so glad I went with this option.

My FH and I are choosing to do a smaller cake (Just for us) and then cupcakes for the guest. In my opinion its less wasteful because a lot of the weddings ive been to recently have WAY too much cake left over.

We are doing a small cake for us and for pictures. Then we will be doing mini wedding cakes, instead of cupcakes. It's the same concept just prettier. And we will be having a full dessert bar. Here are my inspo pics. Of course different colors and design to match our theme. But this is our concept. The mini cakes will be a variety of flavors.

We are doing cupcakes for ours. Several of my friends have done the same thing, and not a single one regrets not having a cake. I love being able to have the variety of different flavors and not have to worry about cutting cake.

I also have 73 guests and am having a dessert table. Observation not criticism. Are the photos showing the entirety of your dessert table? Was it enough? Did your guests fill up their dessert plate or did they know enough to just take one or twp? We are having a hard time deciding how much dessert to order. Internet advise says 2 per person but anytime I've been at an event with so much choice, people fill up their plates.

We are doing cupcakes for our wedding so that we can have multiple flavors and no one has to worry about taking time to cut the cake. People can just grab and go.

Hey , for anyone who did more than one flavor, did anyone have guests who took more than one, causing you to run out before everyone got one? That's my one hesitation in doing more than one cupcake flavor.

Hi Emma: We had a lot more than what you see on the table. There was just so much room on table so the staff put out every variety of dessert and filled in as needed. We ordered about 300 servings (4 per person). We put out the take home bags towards the end of the evening and I know for sure, lots of people took some home and we still had leftovers (about 2 pies and about 2 dozen pieces.) Cookies and pies were regular size and donuts, cupcakes, eclairs and creampuffs were mini size. Cookies, donuts, eclairs and cream puffs were all gone. We had mostly cupcakes and pie left over. Essentially, if it had chocolate on it, it was gone!

We know we were over-ordering but I preferred to have left-overs than not enough. You can never predict how much of something people will take. Some may take 1 piece and others may take 5. It usually evens out. Some people preferred to take a few pieces home rather than eat dessert there, as we had a pretty big dinner. I know a bunch of people ordered coffee with liquor (Irish coffee, Mexican coffee, etc.) so that might have been their dessert.

If you are interested, I can check at home to see if I still have the quantities I ordered if you're interested.

I agree with you, definitely can't go wrong either way! Your dessert table looks so yummy!! I love the variety that you all had! Letting your guests have the option to take some home was a good idea!

Cake is my favorite food in the whole world! I’d eat it for every meal if I could. I’m also a traditionalist and think wedding cakes are beautiful. That being said, we’re having a 4-tier cake.

I dont believe I’ve ever had a decent wedding cupcake. They are always dry, too small, or horrible icing.

I agree, though, that cake cutting fees are ridiculous. A lot of venues/caterers have gotten away from this, but some are still holding strong.

We did a small cake and cupcakes. We only had the cake and 8 cupcakes left over. The flavors were orangesicile (sp), oreo, apple pie, chocolate chip cookie dough, vanilla and strawberry. My husband is a cupcake lover, so it was his vision. Plus the cupcakes were relatively "cheaper" than a tiered wedding cake. The dessert table is also a great idea!

We are doing a dessert bar with a selection of different pastries for our guests. Then we'll have a very small cake for the cutting ceremony. I've been to lots of weddings, and the common thread there is that most of the big traditional wedding cakes get wasted. So I'm putting out desserts that people will eat! A few fruity tarts, a few chocolatey selections, etc. Much more fun!

I understand. That's a shame that they are asking a crazy fee just to cut some cake.

Not sure, but I do love the cupcake, small wedding tier folks are now doing. It looks beautiful and you get the best of both worlds and a smaller cake to cut into.

We are doing cupcakes also, since my wedding is in our family farm. I didn’t want to worry about cutting the cake and serving it. It’s much easier to give out cupcakes in different flavors.

We love cake and it’s a more formal winter evening wedding so we’re going with cake.

We did 2 cakes and 11 pies. If you have cupcakes, provide a plate and a fork. It’s so awkward to eat them otherwise.

We’re doing cupcakes but also a small cake for the cake cutting. But we’ll have a couple different flavor of cupcakes and we’re also having a dessert table as well (:

I'm doing this too! Did your caterer provide desserts for you or did the bakery?

FH and I are planning on having a 2-tier cake for cutting and pictures (and saving top tier for one year anni) and dessert bar/buffet.
